And will it ever stop hurting????
I broke my middle toe 2 days after coming home from WDW last november. It STILL bothers me, and will hurt.
Maybe it's the weather that makes it ach on some days?
I never went to the doctor for it. I called them, and they said they can't do anything for it, and just wrap it with the toe next to it.
So how can a toe heal, if the bone it not healed in the right place?

I have broken my toes several times. Comes with the hobby (tae kwon do). When you kick someone's elbow, your toe WILL break!

It usually "heals" within 4 weeks, but the ache can still be there for quite a while. I haven't broken one in a couple of years, and don't notice any pain now. The knee is another story though!

There really isn't much they can do for a broken toe. I fractured my big toe once and it hurt for 2-3 years. I kid you not. A friend of mine broke her toe recently and she had to wear a cast up to her calf.

I'm pretty sure I broke mine yesterday. Man does it hurt. Thank goodness it's summer and I can wear sandals. I can't imagine trying to put shoes on right now.

I broke 3 toes on the same foot earlier this year. Boy did they hurt. Took quite awhile for the pain to finally go away.

Yes, and I always seem to hurt the same exact toe, too. My second toe on my right foot. I think it's been broke now, oh, 3 times. Maybe I didn't break it the last time, but boy, it dosen't look right, ya know? Kind of crooked. And I am noticing now, around the bottom of the nail, under my polish, it's black. Now, that can't be good, can it? I wonder if my nail will fall off....it just stopped growing after the second break.

And, some days it hurts, and other days it's fine. Maybe it is the weather?

I stubbed mine, and it turned purple. I don't think that it was actually broken, though. It's such an annoyingly painful injury. I limped around for a few weeks!

Hope that you feel better soon!:sunny:

I broke my toe almost 7 years ago and when the weather is bad or when I walk alot the toe will bother me.

I broke my big toe a few years ago, and it was the worst pain I have ever felt. And it doesn't help when the Dr tells you it will heal on its own - nothing more to do. What encouragement!

Eventually, the pain will subside - try a mild pain killer and soaking your foot every night. I hope you get to feeling pain free soon!!

In the summer of 1990, I broke and dislocated my little toe! :earseek: I was walking in our apartment, not watching what I was doing (ok....I was in the middle of having a pillow fight with my DH and trying to ecape an incoming pillow! ) and ran into the desk chair. I felt pain instantly, looked down and saw my right little toe sticking out sideways! (very odd to see that! :faint: ). The toe wouldn't go back in place so I ended up in the ER for them to put it back the way it belonged. OUCH!:crazy2: I did have the toes taped together and had to wear one of those fashionable shoes for about a week.

To this date, on damp or really cold days, it still throbs! :sad2:

Yes!! I broke my toe while at Disney a couple of years ago. Big ouch!!! Wearing a shoe definetly helped me get around. I couldn't go barefoot, like to the pool.

I broke one of my little toes when I was high school age. I was running through the house and hit the toe on a wall corner. That was one of the worse pains I have ever felt. It took MONTHS to stop hurting. I could not wear shoes all summer. It turned black & blue and stayed that way for about 6 weeks! I was miserable for about 6 months!

I've broken the same toe about 7 times. My toe honestly has an affection for the bathroom door. It's now pretty crooked, and it hurts whenever it's damp. It's killing me right now. THe last time I broke it was about a year ago. I've got another toe that I've broken twice, and it's the same with that. Still hurts. I think toes are one of the worst bones to break.

I guess I should be glad that I've only broke my toe one time! I hope that I don't break it again! I know that when I stub that toe, it REALLY HURTS!!! And it always seems like I only stub the toe that has broke, all my other toes, they don't stepped on or stubbed:rolleyes:

It is so odd that I see this thread today. I broke my little toe at least 4 times. Like mtbluejeans the first time was in HS and I caught it on a door frame. I know it takes a long time to heal but since November seems really long to me. Once my doctor gave me anti inflamitory meds and that helped a little. First I need to ask did you go to a foot doctor?? Primary care docs do not really get into this stuff that much.

I have been suffering since my last break. I can only wear certain flat shoes and sometimes even the sheet will hurt it. My foot doc took an x ray and told me that I have a bone chip and this is why it is so painful even after 4 years(last break). I just about to call today call today to have foot surgery to remove the chip and shave down the arthritic bone that has developed as a result of the break. It will take at least 4 weeks to get a shoe back on but summer is really the best time to do this. The stupid toe does not even look all that deformed but I cannot try and go through another winter in pain. ONe thing I have learned after all these years... Wear shoes!!!

No, I didn't go to any doctor. I just call the health center. He said there is no point in even getting an xray b/c they can't do anything about a broken toe. 8 months later, still hurts. It sticks down lower then the rest of the toes. If i bump that toe just a little, it's a sharp pain that goes through that toe:( I hate it. I have never broken a bone in my life, and this little break, is a real pain:p !!

Yes that is what they told me all 4 times too but on the 4th time I did go to the foot doctor and he told me I should have come in the beginning. He gave me the meds which helped very much but if it is still hurting it could be that you too have a chip and that needs to be removed. I went to one doctor and then got a second opinion and they both told me I needed surgery and showed me the x ray. I do not want to do it but if there is a chance I can get shoes that do not look like stupid gun boats or if I can just wear any shoe I want to without pain then I will try it.

Never broke a toe, but did almost cut one off once.
I stepped on a heat register when it was upside down.

Broke mine 2 years ago last May and they ended up pinning it. Still bothers me at times but no more than the leg and ankle that broke at the same time. 2 plates and 16 pins. Boy do I set off the security scanners!

PLEASE, don't wear just sandals. I broke my big toe several years ago, went to the ER to have it x-rayed. When the doctor saw what I was wearing on my feet (deck shoes), he told me I absolutely must wear something much more supportive. Did I listen--NO! I ended up developing heel problems which were worse than the broken toe. You really need to bite the bullet and wear good supportive sneakers or a similar walking shoe. And you can "splint" the broken toe by using surgical tape to join it to the adjacent toe. Do yourself a favor, don't do what I did.
