Like fresh meat? We have these trucks that drive around and go door to door selling meat. I always lie (or sometimes like today it's the truth) and say my freezer is just jammed packed, and I don't have any room. I never saw these butcher mobiles until we moved out here, and I'm just curious. Is the meat good quality? Where do they get it?

where do you live?
to answer, no I wouldn't buy meat from a truck.
never heard of mobile meat markets

No.

I have had them come to my door, but I have an issue with something so perishable that is being sold unsolicited from door to door.

I know it's weird right? We are in Maryland, and this is my first time living on the East Coast so I didn't know if it was more common place around here. It's not just our current town either, because the first time I saw them was when we were living on the Eastern Shore.

Me too! I guess somebody must be buying it though, because they keep on mobile meat truckin'!

Ummm...Noooooo. They come around every year, but I can't say I trust meat sold out of the back of a pickup truck from a cooler.

Wow, I haven't seen a 'meat wagon' for years!

I recall as a child racing out to the street when we heard the meat wagon coming down the street (it had a sound system that played the Monty Python song "Spam" over and over and over and over again).

How we children would surround the meat wagon and look eagerly at the offerings! Weiners, bratwurst, ribeye, T-bones, bacon, ham, fillet of fish and every part of the chicken imaginable! I liked the 'beaks surprise' meatloaf. We would then rush back home with our hunks of meat and ask our mothers to cook it up!

Actually, I would have no problem with buying from a meat truck, if you can look at the meat, smell it, etc. After all, many of the large supermarket chains engage in 'fishy' business to keep their meat looking fresh.

Lived on the EC my whole life - never saw a meat truck. I don't think I would want too LOL!

Now a meat wagon, yep, but that is a whole different thing

What's a meat wagon? Is it a pick up truck with a big refrigerator thing in the back and two fat guys with flannel shirts and bad sales pitches? 'Cause that's what rolls around here from time to time.
Today was free lobster tail with the purchase of rib eye. I just wonder who they get supplied from? I though at first it was maybe that they owned their own cattle, and just sold directly instead of to stores, but I doubt they have lobster boats at the chicken/cattle ranch.

WOW around here they are an actual refrigerated truck and the company is about 1/4 mi from my house but no I don't buy from them.

I confess! I buy meat off a truck!!!!

It's really, really, good though!! LOL!! I know you'll never believe me! ha ha!

I buy from Horizon Foods, and last week got sushi grade tuna, tilapia, shrimp, crab legs, and chicken. I like it b/c it's really yummy, but also b/c it's packed and frozen in single servings which is great since it's just DH and I. You defrost it by placing the little packet in a bowl of warm water, then just take it out the packet and cook it.

I know, you all think I'm nuts!!!! :rotfl:

We have people driving around in pickup trucks with freezer in the back try selling meat here also.I won't buy from them..
The only meat I buy out of A truck is from Schwan's,plus I love there ice cream!!

They need to have a permit from the county health dept.

I would not feel comfortable buying meat this way. How do you know if it has been handled properly?

Well down here where i live we dont see those meat trucks but what we do see is fresh fruit and veggies truck. Farmers come down to the city to cell all there produce. At lunch I just brought a huge ripe mango and 4 tangerines for like about $ 2.50:goodvibes
