Have you ever been fired?

Why were you fired - what were the circumstances? I was fired once in college. I was a Resident Assistant and me and three other RA's were fired for drinking in a dorm room. We totally deserved to be fired! I remember being so embarassed about it 'cause it seemed like everyone on campus knew and were whispering behind my back.

What inspired this thread is I have a friend who was recently fired from his job. He doesn't know that I know, but I have been trying to call him for several days and he won't answer the phone or return my calls. I think he's embarassed or just feeling down and doesn't want to talk about it.

I guess I've been lucky but I have not been fired from any job as of yet. I surely don't plan on it in the future.

No..But I should have been :lmao:

I started working for a law firm at 19, and I went out every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights with the gals from work...One of us (at least) never made it to work Friday's..Some of us slept under our desks at lunch time..OOH the memories..Thankfully they persevered, and we got older and wiser..:woohoo:

No, I've never been fired. I was laid off once, terminated once, and eliminated twice - but never fired!

;)

Never fired.

Laid off once when bank was bought out & they closed our branch. Entire branch staff was laid off.

And I walked out once after 12 yrs. Never thought I would do such a thing, but sometimes you are just pushed.

Yes, the best thing that could have happened. I was able to receive my full unemployment with a small business loan through the state. Now Im self employed and love it. Except my boss never gives me bonuses.

I was fired from a job that I had for 6 years 2 weeks before I had my son. Then after 8 months they called and asked me back.

Not fired, but I believe being laid off (being on the loosing end of office politics which I don't play) feels just as bad, maybe worse, as there's nobody to get mad at... just the thought running through my head that I should have played "the game" like some of the folk who were retained for the last 6 months of the company were.

Also had a company I loved working for go belly up - that was hard, seeing all the people I had grown to know as family out of work all at the same time.

They didn't want to continue to pay me as much as they were for managing. They hired someone new at a much lower rate.

LOL...yeah from Disneyland. I was working there in college backstage in clerical. They worked me 60+hours for weeks and then just dropped my hours. They told me that I failed to do a wordperfect spellcheck on one draft memos. I emphasize "draft letter". Funny thing, I did a spellcheck but they let me go anyway. I actually have a bunch of friends who were fired from Disney as well. One guy just got a job offer as a graphic designer and was going to submit his two weeks to the supervisor and scheduler. Apparently, they company called for a reference and that's how the scheduler found out. He told the supervisor so when he came in for his shift one weekend, they handed him his termination papers for something completely bogus and escorted him out. The guy was a restaurant busser. My friend laughed and told his supervisor "cool, I finally get a weekend off". Don't be surprised to find that many former CMs from the 80s and 90s have a no rehire status and word is ....they are lifting all of them to entice them back.

No, but when I was younger and didn't care, if I hated a job I just wouldn't show back up to work there anymore, so I guess you could say I was fired in a way!

Nah, I've been layed off three times though. Once because the owner sold out and the new owners brought in their own staff, once because the business closed, and once because they moved our facility to another state (I had the option of moving with them but chose not to).
For a while I felt like an abandoned child, lol. Nobody seemed to want me very long, they were too busy selling out, closing up or moving away.

I was fired last October for being a whistleblower.

I was hired once under false pretenses and when they fired me, it was pretty traumatic to me (at the time anyway... it was my first real job). I got this job as a legal secretary to replace a woman who moved away. The attorney who hired me insisted I move to the city -- and the job had so many great benefits, that it was worth it for me to do so! Unbeknownst to him, the other "senior" secretaries had promised their friend her job back if her new one didn't work out. So, they planted stuff in my trash can and in my drawers to find a way to get rid of me. One of the women must have had a guilty streak, because she tried her best to help me find another job, but it just didn't work out for me and I had to lose my apartment and move back home.

It took a while for me to find out the whole story, but one of the attorneys let some things slip to my job recruiter, and one of the junior secretaries filled me in on the rest.

I got fired from WDW. No hours, got passed over for things I should have gotten, and management was no help on how to get hours. I now work at Universal, which I absolutely love. Management had a fit I went to Universal.
