We've been married for 35 years but definitely been through our ups and downs! I think we grew up together. My parents made it past the 50 year mark before Dad died. DH was the child of parents who had each been married before and I think that always affected him more than he realized.

I'm still in my first marriage, or as I sometimes hear it called......the starter marriage.

Hi,

I chose "no" because I've never been married--not even close. At age 43 I'm convinced that I like women more than they like me, and that I'll likely be alone forever. Because I don't drive, I think dating is too difficult to bother with.

Oh don't say that, Jim! You just haven't found the right person.

Dh and I were not divorced before we got married. We just celebrated our 20th anniversary.

Yes, and it was a blessing. I've never remarried. I'll be divorced 9 years in March.

Well...I HAVE been married and I'm going through my divorce right now...I often feel the same way. But I'm going to say...don't think that way. They say that good things come to those who wait...so when it comes for you, it's going to be SPECTACULAR.

Neither DH or I were divorced before we married. We are celebrating our 7th anniversary tonight (Monday is the real date.)

Both DH and I were divorced before we met each other. 2nd marriage for both of us.

I agree with the others- you never know what is headed your way. I am curious though, if you don't mind, why you don't drive. I've only ever known two people who felt that way, my grandmother and a kid I worked with who didn't drive anymore after he almost died in a car accident. The only other person I knew who felt that way changed her mind in college. I suppose you have better public transport than we do in CT though, and so more options.

ZPT: I don't drive because I never took driver's ed in high school. After retinal detachment surgery in 1980, my surgeon forbade me to take the class, because without my glasses I'm legally blind. Besides, New Jersey has the nation's highest auto insurance rates; and though my glasses correct to 20/30 left eye and 20/40 right (the retina in my right eye sustained more damage in the diving accident), I probably can't afford to insure a car.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I just have to mention that my corrected vision is also 20/30 in one eye and 20/40 in the other! Mine is just due to bad genes though. I drive just fine as long as I have my glasses or contacts, the only time I have trouble is sometimes at night it's hard to judge distances because my depth perception is off. But during the day it's fine, I can use landmarks such as the light poles and road markings to judge distance.

Now back to your regularly scheduled subject!

Thanks for sharing Jim. I totally hear you on the high insurance. My cousins live in NJ and we've compared prices. CT is bad but for once not the most expensive, which in and of itself is a miracle! Hopefully your public transport is better than ours (ours is dismal)

My ex and I split up (his affair and he married her in 1999) in 1996 and divorced in 1999. It was very tough on DS. All I can say is the next one will definately be the right one because I never want to go through another divorce again.

First marriage for both DH & I and we are 15 years strong.
he's a swell guy, perfect for me, even with our faults.

I can honestly say that I woould probably nerver marry again if something ever happened to DH (God forbid!!!) because I am not impressed with the caliber of men that I encounter in my area in my day-to-day life. My DH is a gentleman, and I do not encounter too many other gentlemen these days.
