Have you ever been complimented by a stranger?

My favorite compliment (that didn't come from my husband) happened when I was expecting my first child. I was exiting an office building, and a man sprang to the door to hold it open for me...I looked at him to thank him as I passed, and he told me I was absolutely glowing. Wonderful!

Well, let's see...

I had a child mistake me for a Sister of Mercy once. :teeth: I though it was quite sweet.

And I've had compliments on my car(s) before. :teeth: I like old cars, and whenever I've been lucky enough to own one, I usually get compliments on it.

LOL. Not exactly what ya'll are talking about, but it'll do for me. :teeth:

A few years ago I was grocery shopping with my 4 year old (toting her own mini shopping cart and refusing to stay near me) and 18 month old twins. It was a hairy experience- kids were whining, lines were long, etc. After I checked out an older woman came up to me and handed me a bouquet of the flowers they sell. She said "you deserve these" and I just about cried. :flower3:
It was a real pay it forward moment for me- :grouphug:

I love these stories...keep them coming! It makes us know that not everyone is a p.i.t.a. out there!

These are such nice stories! I was afraid that when I opened this thread that it would have people complaining that it's creepy when strangers compliment them. Don't laugh-I have actually read that on these boards before. I am always complimenting people when I can...for their perfume, their hair, eyes, their kids behavior. I know how nice it is to get complimented so I like to make people feel good.

My recent best compliment was when a 22 year old tried to pick me up:rotfl2: Poor kid probably lost a bet.

sigh* Only once. I was walking down the treet when a gorgeous guy was giving me the eye, he yelled some catcalls at me and while I shly waved and looked goofy I noticed the bombshell behind me....curses.

A lady at Wal-Mart told me she loved my hair the other day. I have had several strangers tell me my eyes are beautiful and ask if they are contacts.
Those things always brighten the day and are unexpected. :thumbsup2

I used to get compliments all the time when I was a teenager. But one sticks out in my memory more than any cute guy whistling or eyeing me up...I was about 19 and in a grocery store, an elderly woman came up to me and said I looked like a movie star. She may have been half blind for all I know but I will never forget that lady.

I LOVE this story!!! It's so sweet - isn't it amazing how one person doing something small can just make your whole day better?!

I get comments on my hair all the time; it's thick and shiny...or at least it is after three hours in a hairdressers chair! I always text my hairdresser and tell her!

I was in the grocery store a little over a month ago waiting at the Deli counter when the little Italian Janitor man that works there was changing the bag in the trash can and I said hello. He breaks into song singing :rolleyes1 Thank Heaven for little girls song I was mortified and everyone around was smiling and he wasn't so quiet. He walked away and a then a young man that had been waiting too came up to me and asked me if I was ok :) It was sweet and embarrassing but I'll take it as a compliment ;)

Oh, what a lovely thing to have happenend to the OP!

And he actually sounds like a gentleman! Can you send him over to my sister's? She's single and looking!

I usually have my children with me while grocery shopping, yes, all 5. I've heard lots of "you have a beautiful family," and "you have beautiful children, all of them." I think they include the "all of them" for my older children. People always compliment babies, but not always a 10 yo. It was very nice the other day, a young woman found us in the toy aisle (big suprise ) and said she saw us come in the store. She just had to come find us because I had such a beautiful family and they were all so well behaved. Next to her came an older woman who also commented on their behavior.
I also enjoy the "she's beautiful, like her mom." I've had a few random compliments for just me, but its been awhile.

To me it doesn't sound like he was complimenting you - more like trying to pick you up!!!! You go girl!

So funny! After posting here before I went out to lunch with my friend. After we paid the waitress told me I had the most beautiful eyes. Made my day:)

I was posing for pictures at the Grand Floridian on the day of our Vow Renewal and a little girl screamed "Look, Mom!! It's Cinderella!" As you can see from my siggie pic, I look NOTHING like Cinderella, but it was so cute!

Later that day, as I was walking through the GF lobby, two little girls very shyly approached me and the younger one was urging the older one "go ahead, ask her" and the older girl (maybe 9 years old?) asked, "Are you a princess?" They even tried to give me some flowers their Dad had just given them. OMG! That day was literally the most fun day of my life and was full of happiness and lots of compliments, but at that moment, I felt like a princess. It was so sweet!

A few weeks ago, at the Disneyland Half Marathon, I dropped my sunglasses into the porti potty before the race. As we were all walking to our corrals for the start of the race, shoulder to shoulder, I tell the nice woman next to me about my sunglasses. She responds with " Well, you have beautiful skin!" I get that compliment somewhat frequently, so there must be something to it. I was only wearing sunblock that morning.

I was at our city fair with my little brother, and we stopped at a booth where a man, I'd say in his 70s, was knitting afghans for a charity. He was telling us how the afghans would keep people warm, how they'd retain heat...and then as we were walking away, I BARELY heard him say "You have beautiful hair". That totally made my day, especially because I've put on quite a bit of weight recently and don't feel very beautiful at times :cloud9:

If I knew where he was I would....If I was single, it would have been all over:lovestruc
