Have you Ever attended a U.S. Presidents' Speech

I'm telling on my age, but I saw LBJ give a speech in Nashville.

I've seen Bill Clinton and George W Bush both during their first Presidential runs.

I saw Reagan speak when I lived in California back in the early '80's. I saw Clinton speak in '93 when he spoke at the Jefferson Memorial. I think it was some sort of celebration in honor of Thomas Jefferson. I actually got to shake Clinton's hand when he was leaving after his speech.

I was lucky enough to get to see George Bush senior twice. Both times I was in high school and he was speaking locally. It was really cool to see everyone so close to him in an open air enviroment. But I can only assume that things are quite different these days. But it was really cool to see all the secret service agents and the caravans go through.

Clinton gave the commencement address at the college I attended the year AFTER I graduated, but I went to see him and support friends who were graduating. Yes, I was jealous I didn't get to shake his hand when I got my diploma.

More exciting was the '96 election night party for Senator Wellstone in Minnesota. We were right in the front of a HUGE crowd when he gave his acceptance speech.

I've been to dozens of Clinton events...many before he was president and a few after he was elected. I went to his Christmas party at the Arkansas Governor's mansion for several years and was invited to the inaugural balls.

I was a very early, early presidential campaign volunteer...so early that I was in the office when George Stephanopolous first arrived in Arkansas to help with the campaign. We all went to dinner together one night that first week, and George sat across from me at dinner. He was very personable and I enjoyed his company. Unfortunately, I had just purchased my first new car and could not quit my day job for the $12K a year the campaign offered me to work.

I have to say, though, that the most moving speaker I ever heard was Jesse Jackson. That man can really bring down a house!

Have attended speeches by President Kennedy, President Reagan, President Carter, and President Nixon. The best speaker was JFK, I was about 10yrs old.

I went to Bush Sr.'s speech in our hometown in 92*we're also in a movie!* and I spoke with Clinton in my backyard four years later. We were the only family he actually spoke to when he came through our town and the quote was in the regional, Detroit area, paper. They were both on their train tour. It was hilarious watching secret service personal thinking they were "blending" into our little small Norman Rockwellish village as they checked out the surroundings over a week before each event.

Does it count if it was an election night victory speech, and he wasn't actually president yet? Probably not. Well, I'll just pretend like it counts and say I heard Clinton the night he won his first election. I am a part of history...if you'd like an interview, contact my peeps.

Yes. Reagan when he was here in Miami. I even sat on the stage with him.

DH & I saw/heard current Pres. Bush at an election rally.
The snipers on the rooftops were an interesting thing!

I heard Lincoln speak at the Hall of Presidents. :teeth: Sorry, couldn't resist :teeth:

:lmao:

But seriously....

I got to hear GHWB speak while I was on the lawn of the White House. Very cool.

Actually, being on the lawn of the WH for his speech was the cool part.

Almost got to see Bill Clinton. It was a speech at my alma mater, and I was seven people from the door, when the Secret Service told us no more people could go in because he had arrived and thus no more entries. :furious:

Heard John Kerry speak at a rally in Orlando the night after his first awesome debate against GWB. DS went with DH and me.

I went to a rally for Clinton in Chicago, Daley Plaza and another rally for Bush in joliet with DH.
