We did last weekend, and they were TERRIBLE!! There is a small mountain town Christmas Market fairly close to Denver we go to every year. I've seen them roasting Chestnuts and wanted to try them, so this year I made it a point

They were actually roasted over an open outdoor fire...so festive, but awful. They were huge (looked somewhat like a brain :crazy2: ) and sort of soft. Everyone around the fire commented on how they didn't like them either. Just wondering about the general public. Happy Holidays!

My dad loves them. He doesn't roast them over an open fire, but he does bake them in the oven. He ate some last night as a matter of fact.

Never tried them and now that I read your post I don't know that I'm going to ;) .

Never tried it. I suppose its something that one has to do when the opportunity presents itself. Like eating poi in Hawaii. I never met anyone who actually likes the stuff but everyone eats it once. ;)

Just the smell of them makes me nauseous.

Nope, never did. I like peanuts and most nuts so I would be willing to try them.

we didn't have an open fire but we wanted to roast some in the oven........SOMEONE neglected to tell us that you had to pierce them so they would not explode........WHICH THEY DID.........I mean the inside of the oven was a mess

Yes, they were roasted, but not on an open fire. And they were :crazy2:

OK.. I love chestnuts.....and I usually bake them in the oven...my kids like them too. I have used them in turkey stuffing before, you can buy them at William sonoma all roasted and deshelled.

We ate them 8 years ago at the Grand Floridian- they were terrible!
It sounded so cool so we tried them and they were not at all what I expected.
Yuck!

Yes, as a kid.

They taste like acorns.

Which I also tried as a kid.

Yuck to both!

Good point.. they do look like brains and are soft...I still like the taste though. I think it is an acquired taste though.

I only eat them when I'm in NYC near Rockerfeller Center looking at the tree. It's a tradition. I love the smell of them.

Did you go to Georgetown? When I lived in Denver I went to Georgetown every December to get in the Christmas spirit - I just love the old Victorian atmosphere.
But to answer your question NEVER tried the chestnuts. We had a chestnut tree inthe neighborhood as a kid I can just couldn't bring myself to think of those little things as a food source.
