Have you ever accidentally thrown something valuable away?

When l was in 4th grade I was In the hospital for an extended amount of time and begged my mom to bring the stuffed animal I slept with every night I had had since I was a baby. She didn't want to because she knew I would be devastated if it got lost but I told her I can't sleep with out Ellie so she brought her. Well she got lost in the hospital sheets and was never found again. My mom tried to look and told the nurses and doctors how much she mentioned to me but it is like they didn't care. The worst part of it all this was a children's hospital.

Not monetarily valuable, but my DH accidentally threw my one book in the laundry. I guess one of the kids threw it in the hamper. It was from my grandmother who passed away when I was 7. I was absolutely devastated.

My wedding and engagement rings fell in the toilet and were flushed down the drain when my divorce became finalised.
Common household accident.

I managed to lose a diamond and ruby ring that my grandmother gave me just before she passed away. I was pregnant with my son at the time and as it turned out, his birthstone is ruby so the ring was even more special. I was cooking one day and took my rings off and I think my son dropped it in the garbage/compost.

DH lost a pair of my diamond earrings that he gave me. DS was really little and he used to snuggle on my shoulder which this one evening out was pushing the back of my earring into the side of my head. I took my earrings off and asked DH to hold them for me. Unfortunately he put them into a pocket that ended up having a hole in it so those were lost. He bought me a replacement pair a few years ago and I managed to lose one of them a few months ago!

My passport a week before a trip to India. Cost me an arm and a leg to get a rush passport and a visa. It arrived at my house the day before the trip!

I cannot recall ever actually doing that. I have thought it’s happened, and after digging through the garbage found it elsewhere.

Nothing serious like diamond rings but my husband had just bought expensive sneakers (which was a first) and I accidently sold them at a garage sale for $5 as I thought I took a different pair he didn't like from the closet. Didn't even realize it until he went looking for them and all he found was the old pair. Oops.
