If so how are these places (all for diner except Ohannas)

Brown Derby
Coral Reef
Crystal Palace
Kona Cafe
Ohanas (for breakfast)
Marrakesh

This will be our first time trying these places out and any opinions would be great.

Also I chose Marrakesh over Alfrados, was that a bad choice?

Crystal Palace is pretty good and it is beautiful inside!! Great character interaction!!

Kona Cafe is AWESOME I had the best steak of my 30 year life there..LOL It was sooooo tender I could cut it with a fork. The crab cakes are to die for and so is the white chocolate cheesecake!!!
YOU MUST GO THERE!!!!! Have you gotten the point that I really like this place yet? :rotfl2:

Haven't been to the others though sorry!!

I have eaten at Brown Derby and Crystal Palace. I really liked both. Loved Loved Brown Derby, awesome steaks. For a buffet Crystal Palace was excellent.

Love Coral Reef - one of my favorites and regulars. A great deal if on the DDP.
Crystal Palace - A good deal for dinner on or off the dining plan. Enjoy it and have been several times.
Marrakesh - Went for the first time this past April. Was pleasantly surprised. Loved the belly dancer. Haven't been to Alfredo's in a few years and am not eager to return. BTW, the Boards usually bashes Afredo's.

Hope this helps!

Brown Derby: It was a beautiful restaurant. The food wasn't anything special. The server was okay. I wouldn't go back.

Crystal Palace: This restaurant has a great selection of food. I've never had a bad meal here, and I've eaten here at least 5 times. The servers have always been sweet and very quick to get refils. They have explained the different ingredients in the food for the people in our party with special dietary needs, and offered to have the chefs make special dishes for them. The characters are very good with the kids.

Crystal Palace is a great character meal. The peach cobbler is fantastic. I spoke to the chef and he said that was one of the desserts they make from scratch!

Kona Cafe is a MUST! Their steaks are mouth-watering!

Ohana's - breakfast is another great character meal served family-style.

Brown Derby- never been

Coral Reef- last trip was in 1996.

Crystal Palace- have only been for breakfast, but it was very clean, organized and had delicious food. Our waitress was one of a kind.

Kona Cafe- This is my number one favorite Disney restaurant- breakfast lunch or dinner. It is casual and relaxed, with fresh, delicious and beautifully presented food. Every dish is artistic and you can appreciate it all without the fanfare of a signature restaurant- and to me the food is just as good as any signature restaurant I've been to!

Last trip we went twice. This trip we will be going three times. That should tell you how highly I think of this place.

I have some pictures of a lunch we had there in December. I hope they help you.

We wanted to try so many yummy dishes but we didn't want to have to be rolled out of there, so we ordered an appetizer, a soup and an entree to share between the two of us.

We chose the Sticky Wings (crispy glazed wings with a sweet and smoky sesame flavor, came with greens and a mustard drizzle- delicious!) the Kona Chowder ( a creamy, mild seafood chowder with pieces of shrimp, crab, fish, etc.) and the Polynesian Plate lunch with grilled mahi mahi for our entree (Teriyaki grilled mahi mahi- *the BEST fish I've ever had in my life! tender, flaky, sweet, delicious, slight grill flavor- wow- better than the other appetizers or desserts, even- it was that good!* with Hawaiian macaroni salad and sticky rice)

Then we had desserts, but he doesn't like creme brulee too well and I love it, so we ordered two (couldn't eat them both, though)

Kilauea Torte (Chocolate Lava Cake)- very rich and chocolatey, went well with vanilla bean ice cream, but too rich for me

Caramel Banana Creme Brulee- nice fresh banana flavor, not too sweet

Ohanas (for breakfast)- never done breakfast

Marrakesh- delicious couscous and veggies. A nice choice for a light dinner. Watched belly dancers and bongo player. Definitely something different. It also got me *hooked* on couscous. Theirs was so flavorful and delicious I started trying different recipes at home.

So, I hope that helped. I would suggest Marrakesh over Alfredo's just because it's unique.

I also would suggest Kona because I think it is the best!

P.S. I like your choice in names. ;)

Brown Derby: Good food, hit or miss service (not worth 2 TS, that's for sure)
Crystal Palace: Good food, lots of fun
Kona Cafe: Excellent food

I've eaten at all of them!

Kona is SUPER!

The rest are good, I don't think we would spend 2 credits on Disney Dining Plan though.

The only one on your list we didn't like was Marakkesh, just to bland for us.

Kona Cafe - excellent

Marrakesh - one of our favorites. I love the beef brewats (app), the beef kebobs and lemon chicken, and the vegetable couscous. My DS (now 17) has been requesting Marrakesh since the first time we ate there when he was 8.

Brown Derby- very good and nice restaurant atmosphere but very expensive- even by WDW standards.

Crystal Palace- standard WDW buffet dinner. It's fair to good.

Ohana breakfast- eating here on Sunday mornings before going on for the day at MK is a tradition of my family. It goes back to the days when they had Catholic mass at the Spirit of Aloha outdoor theater at the Poly. The breakfast is great and I love the characters being around even though I'm a middle-age adult.

Plus I like your decision not to eat at Alfredo's :goodvibes

IMHO CP is much better at breakfast. We didn't think the dinner was impressive. CM is MUCH better for dinner.

Have a great trip!

We did Brown Derby at the end of a trip and had eaten so much and different foods that trying anything new just wasnt appealing and I so didnt want a burger (was it even an option?) that I ended up just nibbling my kids leftovers. So I dont know if my not liking it has any reality basis. But I have no interest in trying it again. My parents eat there every trip.

We hated Coral Reef. Too much hype, food too fancy. Hubbie doesnt like sauces and stuff and didnt think to make sure to order all food not touching lol. We were eating lunch here early and were hungry but not overly hungry so we were splitting one kids and one adult meal. I Like shrimp/crab but not fish. I love salad. Appetizers we ordered 2 different salads and Neither me nor my daughter liked them although I still ate as much as I could. One came with Breaded shrimp on it that was just plain gross. The cool glass side table I had so hoped for was a bit of a let down and if anything the feeding of the fish just reminded us of what we were eating ourselves.

We Love Love Love Crystal palace. it is a great family restaurant. We will eat there every time we go. It is an absolute must. (We love that it is a buffet but we dont like all buffets: We wont return to Chef Mickeys). My hubbie rates this place higher than any of the "nice" places we ate and I agree the whole family was much happier here than anywhere else. (We feel the same about 1900 Park fare)

We liked Ohana breakfast. We want to try all the places but would consider it again anyway. Character interaction was okay (a little trouble getting our turn with stitch but was good when we did). Food was typical breakfast food. But that was great because we really like just simple food...probably a big reason we havent enjoyed places like Coral reef.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I really appreciate them all. I am double guessing my Brown Derby decision, but is was the only restraunt that still had a fantasmic package available and it was the only restraunt at MGM that the menu looked good to me. Thanks so much again.

I ate dinner at Brown Derby last September on the Fantasmic package and used the dining plan. I had a great experience, in fact, one of the best Disney Dining experiences I've ever had. My appetizer was the sake laced crab cake with the cucumber/watermelon slaw. Very enjoyable, a crisp crust, mellow crab flavor and the slaw was great! My main course was a pork roast with a very fresh succotash that no longer seems to be on any recent menus I could find. My dessert was the grapefruit cake and it was wonderful! Not too heavy and a refreshing counterbalance to the meal. I had a good glass of white wine to go with it all.

The service was excellent: my waiter was attentive and make excellent suggestions regarding the wine and main course. I enjoyed the quiet ambience and found the meal to be an unhurried, relaxing affair. I thought it was well worth the 2 TS credits. I had an great experience and I'm going back again in September when my Mom and I visit WDW.

I also think the Brown Derby is a great place to eat. My steak was really good. My mom loved the salmon, and my sister is a huge fan of the cobb salad (although she warns that the avocado makes the salad mushy). Our service was excellent and the waiter was extremely nice and attentive.

We ate at a few of these the beginning of July.

Brown Derby -just Dh and Me. Well the place is very nice, food -neither one of us liked. I did not eat very much of my Cobb Salad, waiter asked me why and I told him I just did not care for it. He said he was sorry about that and when our bill came he did not charge us for that. I did think that was very nice of him. We would not go here again. I do know many people who really like this place though. Very expensive in mho.

Crystal Palace-We love the breakfast here, lunch is very good to. Place is so beautiful, characters are really good with everyone young and older alike!

Kona was very good, DS19 who loves steak said it was the best he thinks he ever ate!

Ohanas-we ate Breakfast here liked it alot. Nice to be served at the table and loved the Characters. Stitch and Lilo were fun.

Enjoy your vqcation. I am sure where ever you eat you will get full! :)

CP- the food was a normal buffet type and the characters besides tigger were very boring almost like they didnt want to be there.
Kona-very good b-fast food and pretty good price and service.
Ohana-bfast was GREAT the characters were very interactive and the food was great as was service and atmosphere. :cheer2:
hope this helps
Have a magical day :wizard:

Let's see...

Brown Derby - Very good. We usually eat lunch as I'm a big big fan of the Cobb Salad. And the rolls are worth killing for.

Coral Reef - It's been awhile. I had a rough experience a few years ago and haven't gone back.

Crystal Palace - I haven't eaten here in awhile either, but from what I remember it was pretty good.

Kona Cafe - We stayed at the Hyatt in Aruba last year and tried their Sunday brunch. It's rated as the best on the island and was very good. Kona (while not a brunch) is 10 times better. Best Breakfast Ever.

Ohanas (for breakfast) - It's fun. Food is ok. Characters get around quite a bit. Goofy wiped out and crashed into our table while trying to chair surf. :)

Marrakesh - Never had the pleasure.

Enjoy!
