Hi Huckster,

I haven't actually taken my trip yet but we did book our air thru Disney. We will be flying straight thru both ways. Our flight leaves from Metro on Northwest at 6:58 am A little early but oh well. For the flight down we will all be sitting together. On the flight back we leave at 1:00 pm from Florida. For this we will be in two separate rows.

If you do book your air through the cruise line, you can give your group a better chance of sitting together by calling their air desk 30 days before your trip. This is when they book the flights. If you wait until your docs arrive to find out the flight numbers, you may not be able to get the seating assignment you want. Call the DCL air desk at 1-877-566-0976 and ask for your flight information. You can then call the airlines and get seat assignments.

It's not guaranteed to get your whole group together, but it does give you a better chance than if you wait until your documents arrive before trying.

I'm undecided whether to book our air through DCL or do it on my own. Through DCL, it looks like it's around $400 RT from Metro, a little higher if we decide to go out of Flint Bishop (little closer to home). Right now, Travelocity has a price of $118 from Metro and $148 from Bishop.

We aren't cruising until 2003, but I'm trying to keep an eye on what prices do so that I can figure out which route to go when the time comes.

Just curious what all went into your decision to book through DCL and if it's something I should consider. Thanks!

From what my TA explained if you book thru Disney for your Air they are responsible for getting you there in time to reach the boat. In other words, if your flight is delayed THEY have to get you there. However, if you book your own, it is your own responsiblility to get to the ship.

Booking thru Disney we check our luggage in at Metro Airport and they take care of it after that. They pick us up in Orlando's airport and take us to Port Canaveral. We don't have to do anything. At least, that's what I've been told. (haven't actually done it yet...)

Since it's more convenient for us to fly out of Ontario, CA than LAX, I think the price is fairly reasonable. Flying from the west coast, DCL puts you up in the airport Hyatt on the night before the cruise. This is probably worth $100 or so. The published rate is $179, but you can usually get it yourself for less. Staying at the Hyatt is really convenient.

I've priced it separately, and you can do air, Hyatt, DCL transfers for less, but usually not that much less, at least when flying from Ontario. I see the extra we pay as peace of mind knowing that they're in charge of everything. If the flight is late (although that's not really a problem flying in the night before), or especially if the ship is late getting back into Port Canaveral. In this case, they'll arrange a new flight, if necessary.

Overall, I think it's worth it for the convenience and added insurance. I'm sure you could do it yourself for less. It's pretty easy to use Travelocity or Expedia and price the whole thing on its own and then decide whether it's worth it for you to make the air arrangements yourself, or through the cruise line.
