DH and I won tickets to go see a taping of David Letterman this coming Wednesday in New York City. I have never been to the taping of a television show. DH went to the taping of Jeopardy when it was in Washington, DC about 4-5 years ago.

Have you been to a taping? Have you been to a Letterman taping? Share you experience.

Yes--we've done a couple. It's lots of fun. We saw Jay Leno a couple of years ago.

I'm not sure how Letterman works, but for the shows I've been to, you needed to line up early to make sure you got seats. Also, when I've been, the theater was really cold--they really crank up the a/c. Bring a sweater if you tend to get cold.

I've been to several. I've seen Politically Incorrect and Real Time with Bill Maher several times each, Two and a Half Men, Jeopardy, new adventures of old Christine, and Friends. Never Letterman though. My advice is to get there early.

Three times I tried to get in to a taping and didn't (Suddenly Susan, Frasier, and Dennis Miller Live). For SS we were late and it was our own fault. The other two I was there HOURS before, but their priority process and VIPS meant we didn't get in despite being within the first 20 people in line in both cases.

Get there early.

I've been to Letterman. Had a good time. I think you have to line up around 2pm (?). It's been a few years and my memory is a little fuzzy. If I recall correctly, we were seated around 4pm, and the show taped around 5pm. When the taping ended, we were ushered out of the theater. I've also been to the Tonight Show a couple of times so I may be getting mixed up with that.

Anyway, we had a good time. I think I remember David coming out and talking to us a few minutes before the show started. His guests were Drew Barrymore and Rod Stewart. It was an OK show. It was around Christmas time. At the beginning of the show, the stunt was to see how many Santas could fit in a cafe across the street from his show.

Who are his guests that night, or do you know? I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Years ago, Jim and Tammy Faye Baker had a show called, "Jim and Tammy show" and it was geared towards kids. This was before the PTL show. 2 of my cousins and myself went with our parents.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno had a different setup for ticket holders. You HAD to get there early for his show. Unless they have changed the process in the last couple of years, you couldn't line up too early. I think (and I could be wrong on this), there were "guaranteed" ticket holders and then a stand-by line for David L. We were "guaranteed" to get in, as long as we got there by the slated time. I say that with quotation marks because that might not be true anymore. ???

I have been to Live with Regis and Kelly and Conan O'brien. Both times we needed pre-tickets and still had to arrive early to secure our seating. Enjoy the show.

I've been to a few over the years. Game shows: Concentration, Family Feud (I used to go to that a lot as we had a family friend working on that show when Richard Dawson was the host), sit coms: Chico & the Man, Silver Spoons, Benson in rehearsal, Family Ties, George Lopez (got Constance Marie to dance the "Washing Machine" for us), also John Davidson, Johnny Carson, Dancing with the Stars, Ellen Degeneres, and a couple of specials.

I have been to Letterman....Feb. of 2008. You have to get there at the time they tell you, then line up. They give you tix, but then tell you to come back again at a certain time. When you come back, they line you up and start getting you into the theater. While in that line, they tell you the "rules". No going whoooooo-hoooo, or things like that. Just clapping a lot. They let you in the theater and kind of direct you to where to sit. We were to the left, right in front of the band, which is great, but not the best view of Dave his guests. Dave did not come out prior to the show at all. His guests that night were Randy Jackson and the lead singer from the Kinks. As soon as the show is over, Dave goes backstage and the doors open and you are asked to leave immediately. It was a lot of fun, even though I wish there was more interaction with Dave himself. Have fun!!

I've been to many. I used to work at a TV studio. I also attended 3 tapings of Friends.

I went to a special taping Letterman had for an anniversary show at Radio City Music Hall in 1991 or '92.

It can get really cold in the studio, bring a sweater.

I saw Letterman twice about 13-15 years ago. It was pretty cool, but if you can do anything about it, don't sit in the middle front. The cameras on Dave will totally block your view.

Thanks everybody. We were told we have guaranteed seats; that they don't overbook. We were also told that we had to be there between 2:00 and 3:00 to pickup out tickets -- the earlier the better. We were told that if we were late, the tickets would be given to people in the standby line. So we definitely won't be late. Thanks for the information about it being so cold in there. I will be sure to bring my sweatshirt.

My sister had a friend who worked on Friends and got us tickets to watch a taping. It was a lot of fun--it was the episode with Chandler's work laugh. Luckily, we didn't have to wait in line or anything to get in. It was really cool to see the sets.

We saw Letterman a couple of years ago - it was the same as poster pajamommy mention. They give you a ticket and then you go back. It was OK, we didn't have the best seats because the camera was on Letterman. Robin Williams was his guest that night which was great.

I attended a taping of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno about 15 years ago. More recently we went to a couple of tapings of Austin City Limits. Interesting, because it's supposed to flow just like a normal live concert. But, when we saw Natalie Merchant she kept stopping the tape to start her songs over. It was really a bummer for the crowd.

I was at DHS for a week's taping of Who Wants to be a Millionaire with Meredith Viero. It was cool in there and it was raining at DHS. The audience was made up of all of us that made the cut and could be on the show. They did a week's worth of taping all in one day. I got there at 3 AM and left at 10:30 PM.

I have never been to a taping. My sister and her ex-boyfriend went to a taping of Jay Leno back in 2002.
