Anyone have any problems at Airport Security with the Metal Detectors ???
I have my card from the doctor stating my knee replacements, but am worried they will be jerks and not believe me or something !!

Just curious:confused3:upsidedow

My sister has had knee replacement and both hips. Always extra screening, but it went off without a hitch.

BTW the paper from your doc is not worth a thing. Heck I could print one out in less than a minute that would say the same thing.

They patted me down everytime. I make jokes out it with the ladies that do it...keeps us both happy! The above poster is right, those papers are worth more as scrap paper. Security doesn't even want to see them. :goodvibes

Plan for an extra 15 minutes just in case there are several people that need a pat down!

Thanks for replies DIS'ers
Yeah, I figured it would be like that.
I have a plastic card (credit card style) and a letter, but I figured they wouldn't be worth much.
Okayyyyyyy

As the population ages, joint replacement is becoming more and more common. Sad that it's necessary, but at least the drs are able to do it.

Anyway, airport screeners deal with "bionic" parts everyday, and they've always been courteous to my DH and his mom.

I'm only 46 yrs old, so sort of young to have knee replacements (I think so anyways)
My Mom is traveling with our family also and she has one knee replacement.....Won't we be the fun ones at the airport !! Heee Heee
:figment:

My mom had her knee replaced years ago due to rheumatoid arthritis. She was always patted down going through the regular screening machine. Now with the new machines, I guess they can see the knee joint and she has not had the pat downs when going through them.

My dad has 2 knee replacements and metal plates in his back-he always gets the extra screening. He just tells them right away and they take him over to the area for extra screening-no problem just a couple of extra minutes. The card does nothing because you could have a fake card.

My mom does the same thing. If she is at an airport with the body scanners available, she asks to go through that. She tells the TSA upfront that she has a double knee replacement and has never had an issue. She is directed to the newer scanner or has a pat down.

Hey I appreciate hearing this info
I don't mind the full body scanner thing, wouldn't bother me
I'll just be nice and get thru it

THEN It's Off to WDW and Universal !!! So excited :goofy::tinker:
