This is driving me crazy!!!! The couple across the street from us has a ton of red and white PLASTIC geraniums in their front landscaping. They have several nice shrubs (real ones) and a nice brick retaining wall. But thye put plastic flowers in there!! My neighbor and I figured we'd go yank them at 3 a.m. the night before garbage day!?!? (We'd never actually do that!!) Maybe they would get the hint?? She is more than capable of putting real flowers in. Cmon it looks sooooo tacky!!! It erks me to no end that I have to look out my picture window and see plastic flowers. Reminds me of the ghetto houses!

Is there something physically wrong withthem that would make them incapable of handling gardening? If so it sounds like they are just trying to make the yard look decent.

If not then maybe they are vieing (sp?) for tackiest front yard on the block ;)

Maybe they wanted the plastic flowers to go with their plastic pink flamingo?

Will they be putting in Astro-turf :p

At Christmas do they replace the plastic red & white geraniums, with plastic green & gold pointsettias?:teeth:

Did they just put them in? Maybe they are temporary to celebrate Armed Forces Day which is Saturday. Do they have family in the military, stationed overseas?

You dont live in Burlington MA do you, my in-laws have neighbors who did this, my DW and I went by a few weeks ago and he was "planting" fresh ones LOL.

do they leave them there year round?

my mom actually uses plastic flowers to plan her garden...so she can see how the colors would look after she planted and the garden grew in.

we make fun of her too...but the plastic ones only stay out there for like a few weeks until she gets the 'configuration' down.

I am actually a little offended by this post! I have plastic flowers in my window holders and I think they look lovely! Some of us can't afford to buy fresh flowers all the time! Geesh! Could we BE any snobbier?

I sense very bad things for you if you remove those flowers. Your neighbors are a few inches from snapping mentally. Just a warning (not sure if you deserve one).

At least she doesn't have nude lawn gnomes.

Naughty gnomes made to cover up

Wed May 12,11:17 AM ET

BARNSLEY (Reuters) - A man has covered up his lewd garden gnomes with painted-on swimwear after police warned him he faced arrest for causing public offence.

While most garden gnomes fish or enact scenes of bucolic tranquillity, ex-army sergeant Tony Watson's models in Barnsley, South Yorkhire, bared their breasts and buttocks, prompting complaints from the public.

"It is an offence to display something that is insulting or likely to cause distress," a police spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

"Although some people view the gnomes as a bit of harmless fun, we have to take complaints from members of the public seriously."

One of the gnomes now sports a polka-dot bikini, said local resident John Threlkeld, who passes the gnomes every day on his way to work.

"Tony used filler and paint to cover them up," he said.

i've seen some fake plants that look incrediable, but there are those ugly ones that look so fake they drive you nuts. I also have a neighbor who uses fake flowers. It wouldn't bother me so much but they are not real flower colors. Like bright blue daisies and purple and gold roses. Yuck!

One neighborhood over there's a house that does this...my freind's next door neighbor. It looks SO tacky. They didn't get nice ones....nope....these don't even look to be dollar store quality. Didn't even spread out the flowers, stems, and greenery....just stuck it in the ground as bought. And before you say "Maybe they can't afford it"...the houses in that neighborhood go for $300-350,000. If you can afford that, you can afford a few annuals every season. Or, plant perennials and never have to do it again!! My guess is laziness. It would look SO much better without any color at all....

A guy on our street has them in the pots on the porch, but his are nice and you can't tell they're fake....except that his never seem to die ;) He does rotate them with the seasons... Funny thing....they have a FABULOUS yard that they do themselves...fruit trees, flowers, topiaries, etc.....stuff in pots just dries out so fast it tends to die...so they went to fakefor the porch.

These folks (40ish) are more than capable of planting annuals! These go well with the neon martini and palm tree lights they put in their front bedroom windows!! They are not military people...they are Harley people!! They are smokers and beer drinkers more than able to plant REAl flowers and not FAKES!!! She goes out there daily and rearranges them. Now they are all red and then go red/white around the flower bed bend. Tomorrow they will all be staggered. No, we would never go over there and take them out, Miss Cleo. God help these folks!!

Your story reminds me of the fake flowers they stick in the containers at gas stations- to give it that homey look I guess.
Feel free to flame away folks, but I think all fake flowers are tacky-plastic, silk, rubber- whatever. Nothing says tackier to me then seeing fake flower inside the house- especially when they are dusty. Both of my sister in laws had fake flower bouquets at their weddings for both themselves and attendants so they would always have their bouquets. Why?? TACKY!! But like a good girl, I kept my mouth shut. And before anyone argues the money aspect, I firmly believe you can do simple elegant real for about the same price as extravagant, complex fake arrangements.

Not that I have so much extra money that I have fresh flowers just strewn throughout the house, but when I do splurge on an arrangement for a holiday or occassion or someone sends me some- I am that much more appreciative.

It's funny to read everyones' posts...all of us think we have such good taste, but some of us disagree about what that is.

We have a lady down the street who just has a riot of colorful flowers in a tub by her front door...I'm just glad I can't see it from my house.

But I do have quite a few silk flowers in my house. I change the arrangements about 6 times a year with the seasons. If all the arrangements were real, my florist bill would be about $300 a week. I think they look lovely, but there are probably people who come into my house and think they're tacky.

Missypie,
I hope you at least dust them, or I'll be forced to come to your house with the plastic flower police! ;)
