Have to purchase/link tickets before choosing fp?

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place--I couldn't find a sticky with this info on the theme parks board. It's really scary over there! Our trip starts Jan. 1. After I linked our reservations to DME, I was able to enter the choose fp+. A choose your date appears, but before I can do anything the message that the date chosen must be within a week of our window flashes up. Do I have to purchase and link the park tickets, too, before this will work?

Yes, each person who wishes to book FP+ must have an AP or tickets attached to MDE. The # of days you will be able to select FP+ is determined by the # of days you have on your tickets.

Purchase is necessary to link. MDE system will recognize either your receipt/confirmation number or actual ticket number for making FP+, and thus if all you have is receipt/confirmation number (with tickets to be picked up when you get there) that is enough.

We use non-expiring passes for all our trips. Our oldest one has 2 days left and we will be purchasing a new 10 day non-expiring before we go for our 6 day trip.

Can I link 2 tickets to one Band? If not, I assume I can only get FP+ for the 2 days remaining on the old ticket. What a bummer!!

I don't want to start by using the new 10 day. Over time, we will end up with several tickets with only a few days on them.

Tickets are not linked to bands...they are linked to individuals. That may seem like semantics but it's key to understanding how MDE really works.

Each individual will have their own My Disney Experience account. Adults and children. When you buy a "ticket"...which will soon be little more than a code number...that admission is linked to the ticket owner's MDE account.

Magic Bands are also linked to the MDE account.

In theory, you could have dozens of tickets and dozens of MagicBands linked to a single MDE account. As long as you're using one of YOUR MagicBands to enter the park, it will draw admission from YOUR "tickets".

So the answer to your question is yes, you can attach multiple tickets to a single MDE account.

As for how admission days are drawn from each "ticket", that really doesn't matter. Paper tickets are a thing of the past. Once linked to your MDE account, the paper is meaningless. As long as you're dealing with non-expiring admission, it really doesn't matter exactly how the days are used up from your account.

Okay, I guess that makes sense.

Next question then is how do I get an audit trail of what entitlements are still on each 'card'. I just checked MDE and it doesn't show how many days/experiences are left on the cards/tickets I have already linked.

With all the troubles being reported about MB not working and MDE getting very confused about fastpasses, charging privileges, etc. I am one who wants everything documented.

Okay....I have a question to ask too ;)

We have AP vouchers. I tried to link them and at first it seemed fine. It had me and DH with one number for each of us and then when I tried to go farther it said there was an error and both numbers were listed by DH's icon. I tried to change it and it just keeps going back to trying to assign them both to him.
Any ideas?

Can paper tickets still be used and for how long does anyone know? We have 3 tickets from 2007 that have at least 5- 6 days of water parks left on them since we go in Dec and Feb we do not use them often and I really do not want to link them to a individual. I know this is what Disney is trying to do but it is a bummer since tickets are so expensive to be locked in to a individual when we are a family of 5 (now DD's are much older and like to go on occasion) they may use 1 or 2 days in the water parks every 3 years we may want to try a water park sometime if it is ever warm enough!

Guests with paper tickets will have to convert them to plastic cards that are RFID enabled. This can be done at Guest Services before you enter the Park. You might also be able to convert the paper tickets at the resort, but I'm positive about that.

So I had a similar question on a different thread, and link your 10 day for FP, but manually use your other ticket at the park.

Then you can use the FP for what ever, and you choose which ticket to you. As long as you do not use your MB for the park entrance you are straight.

That may work now but it won't forever. The paper ticket FastPass machines will eventually be removed and everything will flow through FP+.

In fact, the daily allocation of paper FPs has already been diminished severely. There are reports of Toy Story Mania FastPasses all being gone within a few minutes of park opening.

Is this also true for water parks? We have old tickets with WP and more left, but didn't want to link them to MB because it may be too cold when we go.

I believe its true for all Parks, including the Water Parks. But to be certain you can always call Disney to find out.
