Have to get this off my chest, was I wrong?

while in line at TSMM, the people in front of us were taking lots of pictures as the line moved along. No big deal as it is a great queue! However, when we got to Mr Potato head, they and 2 other groups stopped dead and were posing their kids for shots. I walked ahead of them as we were not taking pictures. The woman had a FIT!!!! Yelled at me, tried to stop my DD from moving ahead too, complained to a CM, glared at us the rest of the queue. To me, it was one thing when they were just taking shots in the line but totally different when you start posing for multiple pictures.

Should I have waited while they finished their rather lengthy photo shoot? Really ruined the night for me. I suppose I should have just let her have her way but she made me sooo mad!!!!

Unless it took like 10 minutes, I would have waited. Their photos did not delay you from getting on the ride. There is still a long line after Mr. Potato Head.

Did you board the ride any faster because you went past? I'm guessing no....

I would have waited unless there was literally no one in front of you between PH and the FP merge point.

Actually by passing them they did get on the ride faster.

If you have to continue waiting in line anyway I do not see the reason to push past them no one is going anywhere...if it was an issue of being at the end and there is on open ride to get on that no one is that's one thing but this doesn't sound like that.

In these situations, we usually wait unless it's either an unusually long hold up OR the other party ushers us ahead. However, I do not think you were in the wrong at all. I have much more of an issue with visitors who are unaware and unconcerned with how their actions affect those around them. Like the constant scenario when someone insists on standing on the complete opposite end of a bridge or path as their party, attempting to take a picture, while good samaritans pause the flow of traffic on each side to not interrupt, but the photographer insists on taking ten shots; they either NEVER thank those around them for stopping, OR they express outrage at those who gave up waiting and resumed walking. We're all there to have fun and we can understand the desire to capture every moment, but there should be a certain amount of respect and self-awareness. There is no stopping time at Disney; if someone decides to do something that halts complete strangers in their travels, THEY should be the gracious one, not the random strangers.

You also have to remember that if they stop for 10 minutes for take photos........you're still a decent amount of time waiting for the ride. So while the queue ahead of you will be wide open, when they do leave, they'd have eventually been standing (still) right behind the person they were, and you'd just be that much closer and in the exact same spot.

I....personally, would have waited and would NOT have went around anyone.

It's not personal. I have never seen anyone start having a temper tantrum because the line didn't wait when they stopped (for whatever reason).

But it is extremely selfish and childish behavior.

People who expect a bunch of strangers to stop because they feel like stopping and then throw a temper tantrum because the rest of the world isn't waiting for them need to be reminded that the rest of the world will not be doting on them and waiting for them.

And when they throw their temper tantrum, they ought to be ignored.

This is all stuff their parents should have taught them before they were 5 years old and it is a shame they have to learn it as adults.

I agree with you about the temper tantrum. We'll have to agree to disagree about the line cutting though.

I will never understand the mentality of the need to move 10 feet and wait, or stay where you are to wait. It makes absolutely no difference in the amount of time you will wait, you are simply waiting somewhere else, usually only a very short distance away.

It's like what was just said in response to my question. It's all perception. If people would just stop to think about it, they would realize their perception is really not what they thought it was and they are not doing themselves any real favor by going around them.

So I assume that means you're not going to answer it? Why not? It's not a trick question. You're insisting that these people should just rejoin the line. So, if they wanted to rejoin the line where YOU were, would you let them? Have you done so in the past? You said it's easy enough to do so... is that the voice of experience?

He stated his point of view, why keep harrassing him?? that will lead to nothing but hard feelings, and perhaps even getting this thread shut down if it gets out of hand. :confused3

People probably don't really know what they would do until they are in the situation...if the family taking pics was going to be awhile, personally, i'd ask them before moving ahead.... but really, common courtesy goes along way to making everyone happy :goodvibes

Surely you're not suggesting those 5 seconds were worth it. ;)

And to play devil's advocate, since you want to get technical: not necessarily. Depending on various factors, including group size, CM loading techniques at the load area, etc., it's possible they still would get on at the same time or even after the party taking the photos. :goodvibes

Did you read my post num 64 - I didn't have a temper tantrum but I did get the line jumper moved back to her rightful possition by a CM and then when she continued to hassel us - removed!!!! I think I had a good reason

Am I sorry - was I just having a pre 5 temper tantrum - NO way- and the CM removal of her and her mates backed that up.

They can rejoin wherever they end up - whether I'm there or not. I could also take them for ice cream if that would make you happy. :cool2:

if there's an empty queue and people stop to do whatever -- take photos, or play the games in Space Mountain -- it's perfectly fair to move ahead.

If there's just a visible gap between the non-moving people and the next group of people, however, I think the polite thing to do is wait.

Things like Mr. Potato Head are put into these queues for people to have fun with, enjoy, take photos and help make the wait more bearable -- so people should be allowed to take advantage of that without losing their places in line.

I don't understand why my question would be considered harassing. He said they should rejoin the line and could easily do so. I'm wondering if it's really that easy. Has ANYONE here ever been in that situation, where you've let someone who stepped out of the line rejoin it in front of you? Is it really fair or accurate to say they can easily rejoin the line?

They can rejoin wherever they end up - whether I'm there or not.

See? Was that so hard? Why did this question bother you so much?

I would like to stop for pictures, have you wait behind me and then go for ice cream with you picking up the tab. :lmao:

Who said it bothered me? Are you another DIS mindreader? They're out there you know. I was just trying to prolong the suspense since you seemed to have such an interest in my response. I hope I really made your day that much more interesting. :rolleyes1

I must admit that I don't get it. As some PPs have pointed out, there were still many people ahead of you in line. Those taking the pictures weren't holding you up from getting on the ride- they were holding you up from moving up to stand in line some more.

It may be annoying, but maybe this was a once-in-a-lifetime trip for them...you never know.

I would have waited.

The last time we did TSM, we were behind a large group that stopped to take pictures of EVERYTHING, and for long periods of posing. I tend to feel that it is perfectly fine to continue on if it's their choice to stop for extended photo taking, and I think that it is rude of the photo takers to expect you to stand there and wait for them to finish if the line has moved along a good distance beyond.

If the line is moving slowly, then I agree there is really no point in passing. But I have no problem with passing people who are holding up the line when it is moving along at a good pace. When that happens at TSM, you gotta take advantage of it!!

If someone is taking multiple photos, they are out of the line and I would have passed them. Once they were done they could join the line at that spot. It is understandable that people would like to stop and take photos. I have done it many times. But the minute that it impacts the people behind us, we have a choice to keep taking the photos, or to keep moving with the line. This is the case with all lines that have interactive queues - TSM, HM, Star Tours etc. We make a decision at that point - sometimes we want to take photos, and in that case it is obvious to us that others will pass us, other times we decide to keep moving.
What everyone has to remember is that everyone is on their own vacation and what you do on your vacation shouldn't impact others negatively. The OP didn't want to have to stand in that spot so there is no reason for him to wait more than the reasonable time it takes for one photo.

This is the same thing as entering the FP return queue and the people in front of you realize that they need to start searching for the tickets, realize they still have 10 minutes before their FP tickets become active, wait for additional members in their party, or start deciding whether or not to go on the ride now. At that point, though they are technically standing in front of you, they are out of the line and can be passed.
