From my humble hometown of 120,000 come not ONE but TWO young men whose shows won Tonys last night!

Topeka, KS has a THRIVING arts community (it's true, don't laugh!) that has produced some amazing talent and my two friends Jeff and Tommar's shows Billy Elliot and Hair, respectively, won Tonys last night!

I couldn't be prouder!!! Unfortunately, I've had to watch their segments on YouTube this AM b/c the alarmist weather lady preeempted almost the entire telecast b/c of thunderstorms. Cue crisis music! :scared1:

Any other Tony followers here?

I missed it this year!!! But I had a good reason...I had tickets to Wicked. :cool1: What an awesome show!

I'm hoping I can get to my mom's, who DVR-ed it, so I can watch it. It's the best way for me to keep tabs on what's going on on Broadway. I've gotten hooked on several shows because of the snippet I've seen on the Tony brodcast. Congrats to your friends!!

I watched! I actually hadn't watched in years, but I decided to tune in when I heard Neil Patrick Harris was the host. I thought it was a pretty entertaining broadcast. And congrats to your friends!

Congrats to your buddies! I watch the Tonys every year and loved it. NPH was great. Brett Michaels--well, do you think he has a headache today?

that's so cool, that you know them! i had no idea Topeka was so arts-focused.

i thought the show was pretty great, and i just love NPH. i loved his jab at Jeremy Piven...even though it took me a minute to get! (the sushi bit)

and i have not stopped singing "Get Down (You're Rockin' The Boat)" from Guys & Dolls! They handled that SNAFU well, it was interesting to see how the show fixed a problem and how well the singer adapted to having to use a mic - although, real weird to see a musical theater actor use an actual microphone!

The actor did a great job with that, but I'm thinking who ever was in charge of sound last night is looking for a job today. It was horrible--you can't have that many sound problems on the TONYS!

i completely agree!! i feel like the sound was off for the Next to Normal performance and the Billy Elliot performance as well, something just didn't seem right, like the feed that the performers could hear was off.

The sound in the beginning was awful. You could hear the back stage voices right after Elton John was playing. I thought NPH did a great job. Loved the finale when he sang something about all the winners. The song from Next to Normal was just so powerful. I can't wait to see that one. It is my favorite award show.

The sound folks need to be shot at dawn.

The same fate should await the person(s) that came up with that awful opening number.

I missed the Tonys, but I did see Hair last week. That was a fun show. Never saw it in any incarnation before. Congrats to them.

Hopefully, next show I'll see will be Mary Poppins or Rock of Ages. (Considering my 7 year old DD knows "Spoonful of Sugar" by heart, and my 3 yo DS knows "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger with air guitar riffs.)

Really? I kinda liked it. It was fun.

I'm not familiar with the show, but doesn't the music from Next to Normal sound an awful lot like the middle aged version of Rent? Just kind of had that vibe to me.

Brett Michaels--well, do you think he has a headache today?

I just read he has a broken nose and three stitches in his busted lip. Plus, he's getting a cat scan next week just to make sure everything's okay in his head. (relatively speaking ;))

The audio in the opening number was a disaster. It sounded to me, and this is only a guess, that there were some pre-recorded backing tracks that got out of sync with the songs that were actually being sung live. That explains the odd, swirling effect during the "West Side Story" section. But really, who knows.

Congrats to the OP and her friends ! :goodvibes

That's really cool! Billy Elliot won a bunch of Tonys yesterday! Congrats to your friends.

I don't think Brett will be anyones "ROCK OF LOVE" for a while. :sad2:
