plus a plan.

kajeet is $$$, virgin mobil too. What do other parents do?

we tried tracfone, on advice of the board, but used up all minutes due to HITTING the browser button. REally do not want kids on internet with phone in any case. any ideas and thanks....

need plan for text only and the phone itself.:confused3

We added our kids to our ATT family plan . We upgraded for a few dollars for unlimited texts.

I have a 15 year old and have been doing some research myself. We currently have Net10 with the $25 plan which gives him 750 minutes for the month. The text messages cost either .25 or .50 of a minute. We recently have been having issues with his phone and have decided to look into other companies.

After lots of research I think we are going to go with AT&T prepaid. It is also $25 a month. It includes 250 minutes and unlimited text messages. Since he mainly texts, this seems to be the ideal plan for him. I had also considered Virgin Mobile and the new Target plan Brightspot. Both of those plans would have been $35, so I was glad to find a plan that wouldn't increase the monthly amount.

We added our teens to our AT&T account. It's $10 a month for a talk/text only phone. Ours both now have smart phones which are a bit more.

You should be able to turn off the data in the settings, that way hitting the browser button won't do anything.

We use Page Plus. I pay $12 a month and I get 250 talk minutes and 250 texts per month. I also get data but I rarely use it (keep it turned off on my phone too).
They also have refill cards, I pay $10 for 120 days of service for each of dses. They do not use their phones at all. You can get a 1 year card for $80. I do not know how much each minute or text is, but I'm pretty sure its comparable to others.

Not for the kids - me.

I use a Pantech phone with a QWERTY keyboard and ATT blocks the internet/data so I can't hit the browser button or whatever on accident. Mine is on the family plan though - I really don't know anything about the ATT pre-paid plans but I assume ATT could block data on those also.

Did you ask Tracfone if they could block data for you?

$30/mo for Tmobile from Walmart. Unlimited text, unlimited data, 100mins.

Tracfone triple minute for life phone plus 1500 minute card triples to 4500 and lasts one year. It's only available online and I think it costs $200.

Prepaid Virgin Month to month cancel at anytime. $35 per month for unlimited text, unlimited data, and 300 mins of talk. You can block the data.

We use ting.com and turn off the data feature on our phones from the website/dashboard. DH, DD and I activated our old Kajeet phones on the network and our bill for calls and texts between the 3 phones averages $30-40 a month total for moderate usage. We also got a $25 credit when we first signed up. If you're interested in them, take a look at their website and register, but don't start service. Within a few days they will send you a $25 offer.

We are using chit chat mobile. $9.99/mo for unlimited text and 250 min. So far so good :)

Ugh! It's using Sprint towers!

For those of us who live in the slow Lane, Verizon and AT&T mvnos are our only options.

Next G wireless has a plan for $10, but it's 300 texts.

I have DD13 on PTel. I do get the problem with hitting buttons that cause data to be used. Her current phone is the SAMSUNG T669 GRAVITY T they sell on the PTel site - it seems to have a lot of "are you sure?" type prompts before she actually launches into using any data, so it's working well for us right now. I only put $30 on her phone every 3 months, and when it's gone it's gone, and she realizes she doesn't want to waste that money on data.

PTel costs $.02/text, $.05/minute voice, $.10/MB data on their RealPaygo plan.

Warning: if you consider going with them, stay far, far away from the Alcatel SPARQ phone - it's AWFUL functionality-wise, and broke on us in only a month.

you didn't say do you have your own plan already? On who?

seems under the right conditions family share plans work out.

Kajeet $$$????? Kajeet is $14.95 a month for a plan with unlimited texts and 60 minutes. Sounds pretty cheap to me for texting. When I had my nieces on Kajeet, even if they used up the minutes they had, they could call me or the grandparents, and it came out of the parent wallet, so there was always a plan for an emergency. The phones are kind of high if you buy from Kajeet, but they now let you bring your own Sprint phone, and you can get one cheap on Ebay.

We use Page Plus. I pay $12 a month and I get 250 talk minutes and 250 texts per month.

We also use Page Plus for our teenage son. Very inexpensive and the package is plenty big for him. They reportedly run on the Verizon network. Never had any problems with Verizon or Page Plus here in Central Illinois.

Does the Tmobile from Walmart include iphone for 30 month?

They do run on Verizon. Just an FYI, American Movil, the company that owns Tracfone and all its brands, bought out both Page Plus, which runs on Verizon, and Simple Mobile, running on T-Mobile.

Yes, but it must be unlocked. You can buy the sim from Walmart or from t-mobile.com. I am not certain of the intricacies of getting an iPhone to work on a different network from where it was activated. I do know it takes a little more finagling than just popping in a sim card.

I wanted to point out that this 4500 minutes is 13,500 texts for a year with a regular Tracfone that bills texts as 0.3 minutes. That's 1125 texts per month for a cost of about $17/month. It's neither the best nor the worst deal out there. If you consistently use or need a certain amount, you can usually find a better price through another mvno. If your usage fluctuates, Tracfone might be your best deal.
