Have the counter service burgers declined?

I used to love going to Pecos Bills at MK for a burger. Disney used to have pretty good fast food burgers (better than McDonalds or Wendys) but this time I have found they were not that great. They are now using wheat bread buns (just regular wheat, not whole wheat) which are not good at all. The meat was a little dry and not hot enough and the portions of fries are not as large. When I go on vacation I look forward to going off my normally healthy diet and enjoying some good old fashioned greasy fast food in addition to some great table service meals. You can now get apples as a side instead of fries which is great, but don't mess with the burgers, and don't skimp on the portions of fries. What do you think? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I totally agree. On my last trip I had a burger at Backlot Express at MGM and it sucked. The meat was lukewarm and dry, the bun was hard like it had been left sitting out all night and the fries were mushy and there weren't very many of them. Since I was on free dining I didn't complain because hey...I didn't pay for it. The burgers at Disney used to be awesome. I do see a decline in quality.

I disagree completely. Burgers at WDW have always been substandard, and I haven't noted any significant trend, upward or downward, in that regard. I can remember pretty mediocre burgers going back as far as 1988. Even the fries were often soggy and not very good back then.

We ate at Electric umbrella this last trip and the burger was like a shoe sole. It was hard, dry and didn't quite taste like meat.

Personally I agree with the OP. I found the burgers to be of less quality on my October trip. I also hate the new french fries. They taste very greasy to me.

I ate at Cosmic Ray's (I think, it had a stage?) in the MK on Halloween Night, to get a break from the party, and thought the burgers were downright nasty.

:thumbsup2 ITA. I was going to say were they ever good? I don't ever remember having a good burger @ Disney World.

I had a Pecos Bill burger in October. It was burnt and ice cold! Never again!

We did get a huge amount of fries though. I commented that if they weer gluten free our girls could share a double burger (w/o the bun) and the fries.

I don't think the CS burgers have ever been very good. Even as a child in the early 80s, I didn't like them. It's a shame if they've managed to make them worse.

Wow - I had one at the Commisary on my last trip and it was pretty darn bad. I thought it was just the location I chose - shame to hear that burgers are bad all over the World

Unfortunately I agree w/ the OP as well. We used to  Pecos Bills and ate there several times each trip. This past trip we went twice and it just wasn't the same. It was still good IMO but not what we were used to from before. I guess now we will will be trying more variety in our CS meals.

Here's another vote with the OP. I've never thought WDW CS burgers were all that good, but they were acceptable. This last trip (Sept. 06) I found them downright nasty. As others have said, the wheat bun wasn't good and the meat was quite dry and flavorless.

The CS hamburgers never were wonderful, and I think the overcooking to reach 160 degrees internal temperature has made them worse! Of course, that's better than e-coli! :)

I eat very plain food; a hamburger is meat and bun, no condiments or cheese. The CS hamburgers at WDW (including resort food courts) just don't make the cut for me.

I have NEVER had a good burger in WDW. On our last trip which included the DP and 9 CS meals, none of us had a burger once. Linda

Actually, burgers have been getting better over time at WDW, because more and more of the TS restaurants are beginning to offer them.... those are of decent quality.

Agree - CS burgers at WDW have always been poor. And we have experience even earlier that Bicker - 1984.

You're absolutely right! Disney burgers have always been bad, and I've been going since '72! Thing is, the flavor and quality has stayed so consistent over the years, I must order one on every visit. It's not that the burger's ever been any good, it's the nostalgia of it all. One bite and I'm 8 years old with my Grandfather again...

on the issue of hot food have found that most places, disney or the rest of the USA dont tend to have the food pipeing hot as were used to
and dont get me started on the corect use of a knife and fork

I've never been a fan of WDW's burgers...but this last trip, Pecos Bill was OK...especially if you add bacon to it!

I was more disappointed w/ Beaches & Cream's burger than Pecos Bill's.
