I have some friends that offered to sell us some points for a trip. I know they wont have as many as we need, so how do I get more points and combine them together? If our friends are making the ressie then how does that work? I know nothing about DVC renting and figured I would try and get answers before we proceed with more details from our friends. Thanks for any help

You aren't renting points, you're renting a reservation. The Member that you are renting from will need to arrange to transfer points into their account or you will need an additional reservation and you will have to check out and back in.

;)I think you can only transfer points into your use year, once. That is one transfer per use year. Make sure if you are doing this that you have the right amount of points--becasue you can only add them once....not two or three times to get the amount you need. If this is incorrect someone will come along and correct me.

I'm assuming you are not a member. In that case this is a bit tricky. Since your friend does not have all the points you need, you can "rent" the points from your friend and ask your friend to make a reservation for you for the number of nights the points she has would allow and then you can book the remainder of your trip with cash. Alternatively, you would have ask your friend to find a member who would be willing to transfer points into your friend's account (for a price of course) to make up the difference you need. This can only be done once per use year AND you friend needs to make sure they know of any restrictions on those transferred points in case they would impact your reservation. Not alot you can do here as a non-member, it would take some work on your friend's part if you decide to go the transfer of points route.

'Renting points' is a bit of a misnomer, since you won't actually be getting any points. Only members can make reservations with points, and only with the points that they, personally own.

The easiest approach is to have your friends make a reservation for you, for as many days as they have points to cover. Then, rent from another member and have them make your reservation to cover the remaining days. The two members can call Member Services and ask for the reservations to be linked, so you hopefully won't have to switch villas in the middle of your stay.

You're right - this is the best approach.

Have your friends make part of the reservation and you could rent pts from someone else. Then have your friend call member services and link the 2 reservations together. We have done this with our points. We used our pts for the first days of the reservation and rented the last part from another member and just gave member services the reservation numbers.

......friend needs to make sure they know of any restrictions on those transferred points in case they would impact your reservation.

Points transferred need to be from the transferring member's Current Use Year allotment so they're should not be any restrictions. Those transferred points may be banked by the receiving member but they will still keep their original Home Resort & Use Year designation.
