Have never done disney before and go in 10 days ... help please

I feel likes there's loads of prep I should be doing to maximise our trip, but I'm not sure what.... any tips?

We are staying at Davy Crocketts and have booked a lunch at Auberge de Cendrillon for our first full day in the park. But have done nothing else (other than browse here of course).

Should I print off a good park map from somewhere before we go? Then I could highlight the attractions we want to do - is that a good start?? Or do we get a good park map when we pick up our tickets?

Any help and trips for a great first trip with a princess mad 5 year old and a rather cranky 2 year old would be much appreciated

Hello debweb and welcome to the DIS

You will be given park maps when you check in. We do have a link to scans of the maps in the Very Useful Info sticky at the top of page - but they are a little out of date now.

Have a look at this calendar on the official DLRP site. If you click on the dates you are visiting, you will see the times of the parades and shows, so I would advise checking that to make sure you don't miss something that you want to see. As (it would seem?) you are visiting during the week, the parks shouldn't be madly busy - so I wouldn't worry about doing major planning, especially with children of that age! As you long as you got your must sees sorted out, just relax, soak up the atmosphere and be prepared to spend a considerable amount of your time in Fantasyland!

you guys must be really excited!

As for prep, I know what you mean, it can all be a bit overwhelming the first time!

I'd say you've already made a great start by checking these boards they're full of useful tips to make the most out of your trip.

To be honest, I probably wouldn't bother trying to print off park maps, simply because it might be hard to find a decent sized one!

What I would recommend is planning your day around meal and showtimes. That way, you are flexible and you at least know where you'll be for some of the day.

Seeing as your kids are 5 and 2, here are some recommended rides - you may find a lot of your time will be spent in fantasyland for your princess mad 5 year old, as it is probably where the most rides for young kids are located.

It's a small world - fantasyland - nice little boat ride, great for taking a breather and young kids seem to love it

Peter Pan's flight - fantasyland - get a fastpass! the queues get really lengthy, and it is only a minute and a half long. still, a lovely little ride.

Alice's labyrinth - a nice walkthrough maze then ends up at the queen's castle, good photo opportunities

Casey Junior and Storybook land - right at the back of Fantasyland, these are usually quite quiet and nice little rides

Hi,

The park maps you will get at check-in are great, very detailed, and you can also pick up show times etc at check-in. Apart from those, you really don't need anything else (the park maps show you which attractions in each "land" are especially suitable for young children).

As well as whats already been stated, I'd recommend both the parades (ie the Studios one at 1.30 and the main Park one at 4pm). Also, in the Studios, Animagique (really is magical ), the Flying Carpets, and the new Cars ride.

You'll get Princess interaction at your Auberge de Cendrillon meal, and if you don't get loads of other character interaction in the Park (its a right old scrum for characters there) you might want to consider a character tea party at the Plaza Gardens, or lunch/dinner at Cafe Mickey or the Lucky Nugget saloon. Look out for characters at your hotel too - reception there should have a list of times when they are scheduled to appear (often around breakfast time).

I have some park maps you can have if they'll help, the parade times will be wrong because they're from March I can get them in the post for you tonight if you let me have your address.
The first time and second time we went I hadn't discovered DIS and we still had a fabulous time, I do wish we'd known the first time that we could walk from land to land and not keep returning to Central Plaza.

Wow, thanks everyone for your quick replies. I've now printed off the parade/show times and I'm going to add our list of things we really want to see (including your recommendations) and use that as our guide.
My husband has come home from work saying a colleague will bring park maps in for him monday, but thanks for the great offer Jill.
I was feeling a bit overwhelmed to be honest but already feel better, we're there for 5 days in total, so I think a couple of must sees a day will leave plenty of time to enjoy and go with the flow.
I am sad though that 'small world' will apparently be closed.
