I am planning to exchange my week with a Disney villa. It can be with OKW villas. Had anyone done this before. Tell me abpout it.

I've heard of people who have tried to do this, but it very rarely works. The Disney Vacation Club Resorts are only available for exchange when a DVC member exchanges out. So, it becomes very limited. Make sure your put in whatever exchange request you need to make in early, DVC members reserve 11 months in advance, and can make other resort reservations 7 months in advance (which is probably when an exchange can go thru).

Good luck!

Have moved this thread over to the DVC forum as you might get more responses over there. Which timeshare are you planning to trade? A lot of people use www.tug2.net to trade their timeshares. It cost $15 for a years membership but, you get a free advertisement.

I would also like to hear about the experience of anyone that has done this since we are also trying to do this. Any "secret" to it? Any good advice?

We have tried to do this on 5 separate occasions and we unsuccessful. We were told by Interval that the success rate is pretty much "never". I would try to trade it else where or maybe post it on the dvc trade board. If nothing else, there are some nice timeshares right off disney property.

The combination of how DVC operates and the few units that are given up don't leave much room for success. There are opportunities though if one askes for the right thing at the right time AND has a very good trader.

First, you can expect to have a chance at Old Key West at times other than summer, Spring Break or Xmas. Summer will rarely show up as an exchange but the others will not be deposited to II by rule. The others I've seen are Hilton Head off time (non summer) and lately Vero Beach in the fall. If these are not what you want, don't bother.

You need to be very flexible and list as many unit sizes, weeks and resorts as possilbe. I'd still list the other resorts that are likely impossible as you never know when a fluke will happen. If you're looking at summer, I'd try to make other plans or at least make a backup you're comfortable with. You should also know that in addition to the regular II exchange fee, there is a $95 resort services fee that DVC charges to exchangers.

Other options would be to rent from a member or set up a direct exchange with a member. The latter normally only works if you have something cream of the crop in both resort and time. You may also want to try for any one of a number of great Orlando resorts that are off property but will be just as nice as DVC other than not being on property at WDW. If you do go for a direct exchage, there are some things that could help you. DVC can actually be scheduled on a day by day basis. This means that you could trade for 5 or 6 days. If you are willing to do that AND avoid weekends AND/Or accept a smaller unit than you are giving up, your chances of getting a direct exchange go up dramatically.

I hope this helps.

I actually had success with this. My parents own a timeshare in Atlantic City, NJ and gave us their week to exchange through Interval International in 10/00 for our honeymoon. We chose to try for the two DVC resorts that were available at that time: OKW and BWV. When I called to request the exchange, the rep laughed at me and told me that I should start thinking about other places because the chances of this one coming through were slim to none. Well, about 5 months later we got the confirmation for a studio at BWV. We had a great stay and purchased DVC while we were there. The only suggestion I have is to place the request as early as possible. We did it a year in advance. That way you're at the top of the list if and when someone exchanges out for your dates. Good luck!

If this was for an exchange that occured in Spring or early Summer of 2000 for October of that year; that was before the rule change where they give up the lowest points costs no matter what you own. BW would have been far more feasible then than now.
