Have Allegiant Air fares gone nuts?

I'm not traveling to WDW until early January, but I typically keep an eye on the trends of airfairs. Allegiant Air, a discount carrier, has in the last few days had fares go beserk! $319.00 for ONE WAY in mid-January??? This fare was $69.00 a week ago. I know their fares move up and down often, but it seems in the last fews days this "discount airline" has raised fares through the roof. Anyone else notice this?

Not sure, but we are paying twice as much as last year to fly from Bangor to Orlando on Delta (but it's still cheaper than the price from our hometown here in Canada). I think the airlines think the recession is going to be over and it's OK to charge more....not sure.

Most airlines are still losing money. SW barely made a profit in the last quarter. They need to charge more to stay in business.

I think Allegiant tends to drop their fares as the travel date nears. Just for kicks, I checked airfares from Allentown, PA to MCO for next week, 7/9 - 7/13. They are $59.99 each way......Makes it very very very tempting to make a quick trip.

I got our departing fare at $29 each person and now that our departing flights have opened up they want $199 each. WOW what a difference 12 days does. Really starting to think how in the heck will we get home:confused3

Just keep watching... I find that Tuesday afternoon thru Friday morning are the best fares then they hike them up for the weekend and back down again on Tuesday.

I have been watching airfare 3 times a day since the 330 mark for our trip in December. Fares are double what they were last year with no signs of coming down. They fluctuate a few dollars from week to week, but no real deals to jump on.

So Pam, when do we leave? LOL! I keep telling myself once these kids are grown up & in college we WILL just do this!

Pam: Hey Tara, fares are $19.99 to MCO - can you go?
Tara: I'm throwing my things in a bag now meet you at MCO in 2 hours!

I've never been able to determine the rhyme or reason to Allegiants fare fluctuations. The last time I flew them I watched my dates like a hawk - ranged anywhere from $39.99-$269.99 one way - I took a huge risk & kept waiting - it paid off for me, just over 2 weeks out they dropped to $19.99.

Pam - the ladies are going 10/24-28 for F&W and again last week of March for F&G - think about it!

I am glad to hear your prices ranged with that much difference. That gives me hope for our return flights.

I'd be wary of Allegiant. I booked a decent deal for this Aug 18-28 last March. Well, today, I was double checking my itinerary flight times and they CHANGED MY FLIGHT DAYS to the 19th-29th! I did not get any email or phone call. When I called, the agent confirmed that they had indeed changed my days and there was nothing I could do about it but get a full refund. This is not catastrophic, but we may not have lodging now and I am dangerously close to missing my first day back at work. NOT happy w/ Allegiant!!!!!

When you called were you able to figure out when they actually made the change? I have three airports that Allegiant flies out of within driving distance from my house and we are Allegiant-holics. That said I usually only book at max one or two months out and have never had a date change.

Just thinking thru my upcoming flights in my head....

Allegiant sometimes serves as a contract carrier for package vacation consolidators; it is possible that most of the seats on that flight have been blocked for such a purpose.

Its odd, but for the routing in our area (GRR to MCO) Allegiant was showing five flights a week for Sept/Oct/Nov to Orlando just a few weeks ago. I now notice they have two, maybe three flights a week. If you had booked a month ago, there is a very real chance that flights on the days you booked were just cancelled, in a rather wholesale way.

Their pricing CAN be great, but you really have to keep your eyes open with this bunch!

Yes they have gone crazy I think :) I have been watching Allegiant for the past 2 months looking for our trip in September. I watched prices go down to 39.99 each way for June/July/August...thought I had a pattern going on so I figure out my trip in September and they majorly cut the schedule from 5 flights a week to 2 flights a week in September. I think my hopes of some cheap fares for September gone. There is a 319 one way in September for the Sunday after Labor Day. Not sure what that is about...I fly out of GRR also so I was hoping for some 39.99 fares but I am beginning to think that one happen with the reduced flight schedule. I checked out Air Tran but they aren't that cheap either. Heres to hoping that the crazy airfare prices stable out soon..
