Hiya
Have just caught up with this thread. I'm glad he didnt turn up last night.
In my professional opinion there is a legal recourse - the Harrassment Act - which was brought in precisely for these type of incidents (ie where you receive unwanted flowers on your birthday every year etc).
You can report this male to the Police and they should issue him with a 1st Harrassment warning (well that is how we do it - not sure what your local force policy is).
He wont go to court or recieve any other form of "formal" punishment, but the record of the warning will stay on his record and can be called up if he does something similar.
It is basically as it says on the tin - a warning. They usually get the message as the next time there is no warning but a caution or a charge which are more serious.
You need to keep a log/diary of all the incidents, his behaviour, words exchanged - and anything else that could be of relevance/importance.
If you need anything else please PM me.
Good luck.
