Have a new IPAD 2 - Some Questions

I know the IPAD is very popular with the PODCAST Team.

So I am hoping for some advice on the product.

I was hoping to bring my IPAD 2 to Disney in the future, instead of a laptop or netbook, and to use it with the IPAD camera reader attachment to upload pictures from my camera's SD card, and do editing directly in the IPAD.

I am amazed to see that their is no album creation directly in the IPAD, but limited to the "CAMERA ROLL" album, which the card reader attachment feeds into.

I have seen APPS that try to make the CAMERA ROLL look like it has a subfolder for virtual organization within only that APP.

What app do you use to SORT, EDIT, ROTATE, CATEGORIZE, and make different albums, and can DELETE PHOTOS as well in one good app, but directly on the IPAD itself ?

Do you have other favorite photo tool apps besides?

ITUNES is a slow way to sync photos down to the IPAD, I have tried other apps that use the WIFI Internet approcach, they are faster, but have limitations.

So any advice is appreciated.

I normally do all this editing on a laptop, and find it very easy to insert the SD card, and use one SOFTWARE photoshop item.

I use SMUGMUG for photo storage, so I guess I could upload all the pictures and edit there, but I would really like to just upload an entire album, or at least say take the entire CAMERA ROLL from the IPAD please. I don't want to pick one picture at a time.

Another question, what product do you use to do most of your writing on?
I have tried PAGES, because of the fact it interfaces with WORD and PDF types.

---

The last time I was at the Beach Club Villas (DVC), the wifi in the rooms was a charge for DVC members, but the ethernet was free for members. I have considered buying an AIRPORT EXPRESS to get around this. If I do, will I have trouble signing onto the ETHERNET opening page, using a SAFARI BROWSER. Has anyone used their AIRPORT EXPRESS at Disney without signing on first with a laptop, I want to do this strictly with a IPAD 2 only.
Will the opening signon DISNEY page have troubles with SAFARI?

(I'm used to an explorer or firefox screen coming up with the WIFI agreement page first, can Safari handle this?)

Thanks, PHIL

Camera Apps that I use

Camera+
Pano - makes great Panoramic pics

Imovie - for making quick slideshows
Eye-fi - for direct uploads from my DSLR
Photobucket - for quick uploads for board posts
Photoshop Express - for uploading to facebook and for editing

I went without my laptop last trip and was able to use the Airport Express to set up a wireless network in my room.

I set up a second profile on the AE to use on the road. I just had to switch to that profile before leaving home. Here's an Apple Knowledge Base article on the details: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21552?viewlocale=en_US . This confirguration cannot be done on the iPad.

Once at the hotel, the AE started up using the travel profile and worked with no issues. When I launched Safari on the iPad, I was directed to the hotel's log in page. (I did need to call either member services or the front desk to get a password. The number was on the log in screen).

As for editing and organizing photos, I have yet to find a good solution. I'd be interested in what you come up with.

I use photo sort for the ipad(just for organizing). It isn't perfect but does alright.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I find the PHOTOS IPAD built in APP lacking so much.

My camera take movies in the AVI format.
When I use the CAMERA IPAD kit, it does bring the movies over with the pictures as well. But it does not play them on the IPAD. It shows a grey ICON "MOV" on it. Some of the other APP's don't seem to want to handle it either. In the past I would just put in my SD card to a netbook or laptop and it would play easily, including the Quicktime utility.

Is there anyway of playing them on the IPAD without having to go back to the PC to have ITUNES convert them during the download to the IPAD?

If I get a camera that does the H264 format, will this solve the problem?

Do I need to get a new house and car that is APPLE IPAD compliant ?

Trying to NOT carry a LAPTOP with me on my next Disney vacation.
I am hoping I can use the IPAD 2 just by itself to accomplish some simple photography tasks.

Help Please.

Thanks, PHIL

The Ipad/IPAD2 will only play Mp4 videos natively. My Canon Sx1 IS that does HD video, will upload to the IPad2 but it will not play, UNLESS, I have recorded the video in SD. SD movies on my camera are Mp4 as opposed to Mov files. I have not tried on my DSLR.

The new IOS 5 system announced for September has some needed updates to the APPLE supplied PHOTOS app, which includes in the device editing, cropping, rotating, and album organization. I hope this is available to me, and it makes using it for Photography Editing on the device directly, easier.

Phil

It also looks like the new iOS5 will allow you to set up an Airport Express (or other apple routers) directly from the iOS device. So that should help.
