haunting photos of abandoned amusement parks

Very sad and sobering to see the photos of Jazzland/Six Flags NOLA. Hubby and I had one of our first dates there.

Yeah, it saddens me whenever I pass it. I never got a chance to go there. It really needs to be torn down since it is seen from the Interstate.

Side note: I clicked the link for abandoned zoos at the bottom of the amusement park page and saw Belle Isle Zoo in Detroit. I vaguely remember going there as a kid and I'm so sad that it's just rotting away now, I hate it when politics get involved in things like that!

Oh I'll have to check that out! We used to go there all the time too. :guilty:

Love looking at these types of photos - especially the Chernobyl ones, they are so cool.

Amusement parks should be full of life so it's odd and eerie to see them abandoned like this. River Country is like that too.

I miss that place like crazy! Such wonderful memories of it.

Miracle Strip Amusement Park in Panama City beach is another long lost favorite...

A neat little park, and the place that birthed my love for roller coasters.

Does anyone remember the thread posted here a few years ago about a creepy Magic Kingdom look a like theme park? I think it was somewhere in Asia, but I could be wrong. It was soooo bizarre!

For some reason, I think the link may not show up...if you go to Theme Park Review dotcom and search for nara, you can find photos and video of this weird little park.

It is bizarre to see places that were once so filled with life and happy memories just quiet and empty. I used to work at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and some nights would leave at 1-2 a.m. and there wouldn't be a soul in sight and everything dark and still. So eerie.

I remember reading that thread awhile ago about the guy that snuck over to Discovery Island. That was pretty cool (he also did the abandoned section at Pop which was interesting too). I remember a great day I spent at Discovery Island when I was a kid. There was hardly anyone else there (we never saw anyone else other than CM's), so in my 11 year old mind I imagined that we were marooned there :). I remember it every time I see that island.

I didn't realize Geauga Lake was closed down now. I worked there in the late 80s for a summer. That was such a nice little park. I never did get over Sea World's closing. We went there every summer until they closed.

I used to go to our Company Picnic at Sea World every year!! I thought that another park was built there?!?! Six Flags didn't take over that park? That is so sad. Lots of memories there tooo!!!!

They turned Sea World into Wildwater Kingdom - a water park. And you got entry to both that and Geauga Lake with one ticket. Then they closed GL cause they said Wildwater Kingdom was more popular. BOO!

My family, cousins and parents, would make trecks to SeaWorld and Geauga Lake. We always stayed in a Knights Inn. Gotta love the red carpet and purple velvet bedding. :thumbsup2

We went back a few years ago when they had the killer whale (2002?). I didn't realize it had closed.

We live a few minutes from Geauga Lake in NE Ohio. Its depressing to look at it now. Half torn down. The tracks broken. Its like my childhood memories are broken!

I'm going to have to ask my mom about Idora Park today. I've never head of it, but I'm sure she went there when she was younger.

I was near there not too long ago and was sad to see it in such dosrepair when we drove by. I spent many summer of my childhood going to Geagua Lake and Sea World.

Photos of urban decay fascinate me. I don't know why. If you Google abandoned buildings, you'll find lots of bloggers. Some of the photos are incredibly beautiful, in a very haunting way.

I loved Idora Park and the Ohio Sea World when I was younger. Idora was gone before I had kids, but I did get to take them to Sea World a couple of times before it closed.
