it is not scary scary. More of a funny scary. You will be amazed at the engineering that went into making it. You will want to go back to see what you missed the first time.

Yep, I think you would be fine. Its entertaining and not really scary.

I don't think it's scary. My five-year old loved it and I plan letting my three- year old ride it this year. No one jumps out at you and it's not too loud. I think you'll enjoy it.

thats what i wanted to know it is not like a haunted house thats good to hear i am excitedto go :cool1: 10 dAYS

I HATE scary stuff. I'm 30 years old and I can't watch any scary movies b/c it gives me serious nightmares. That being said, I love Haunted Mansion - probably one of my favorite things at MK! :)

Wow!! You have Asperger syndrome!! I do too!! Man is it hard to be us lol. Well to answer your question, the ride isn't really scary. Its an entertaining creepy. If you can handle rides like roller coasters and tower of terror, then the Haunted Mansion will be no problem at all. The scariest part would be the bride Constance who wields an ax. The other way that makes it creepier is to go on the ride after dark, which I did and that was so fun. Now myself, I would hate to be on the roller coasters and tower of terror. The only roller coaster I went on was Revenge of the Mummy and soon Expedition Everest.

Hi :wave2: My son has Aspergers too. Last time we went to Disney World he was almost 12 and didn't think Haunted Mansion was scarry at all. He says the scariest part to him is the streaching room in the beginning before you even get in your ride car. Mostly I think people scream in this part to scare each other. He loved Tower of terror and Expedition everest.

Here's a link to a video on youtube. If you want to be suprised when you get to disney world don't watch it. If you do watch it I think that you will still enjoy Haunted Mansion very much. It's one of my favorite rides.

Have fun on your trip. I'm so jealous. I don't get to go for another two years.

I have a 17 yr. old son with Asperger's. I just asked him what to tell you...
he says it's not that scary. The scariest part for him is the stretching room.
It was harder when he was younger but very easy for him now.
Have a great trip and enjoy yourself!
Smiles!:hippie:

I don't think the mansion is scary, but Tower of Terror is extremely scary. It's not all about the drop--the special effects before the elevator drops are very disconcerting and I hope I'm not spoiling it for you, but the elevator drops multiple times unexpectedly.

I find it quite terrifying!!

Have a good time when you go!!!

Just a quick note about the HM. I don't know if they still do this or not.

Just as you are being herded into the stretching room be aware of where the CM's are. If its not crowded, the CM's, who are directing you into the room, have a way of singling out someone to scare sometimes. Its like the person will be having a conversation with their friends ,oblivious to their surroundings, turn around and the CM will be right there. They don't jump out at you per se, just they seem to appear right in front of you.

I asked my 18 year old son who has AS if it would be a problem at the HM and his response was "Why would it".

I had this happen to me the first time I rode HM when I was a teen...and it freaked me out. :scared1: LOL But I am a bit of a wuss. Haunted Mansion is more 'campy' scary than truly scary. I am *hoping* my 2.5 year old doesn't get the pants scared off of him b/c we're planning to have him ride it with us....I guess we'll find out.....

My nephew has Aspergers; he has not been to WDW, but I can give you some information about Haunted Mansion based on things I know he would not like or would have probelms with. You might also want to visit the disABILITIES Board for more information. Some of the regular posters to that board have Aspergers or have children with autism or Aspergers. There is a link to the disABILITIES Board in my signature.

If it would help you to see what the Haunted Mansion is like, there are videos on youtube that show pretty well. This one is very good for color, but not so good for details.
Here's another one that shows a bit of the queue, the preshow and the ride. It is much darker in the ride, especially in the preshow than it looks in the video.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD> DON'T READ ANY FARTHER IF YOU WANT TO BE SURPRISED:

The Preshow:
The room will be quite filled with people and the CM tells everyone to go to the 'dead center' of the room. If you have problems with closeness with strangers, have members of your group act as a buffer between you and the other guests. At the end of the show, the lights go off and you will not be sure which way the door to get out is. In the video, it shows a crash of lightening just after the ghost host says "There's always my way." You might want to hold hands with the rest of your group then so you don't get separated in the dark. There are some loud screams that are part of the preshow and some guests usually scream too.

The Boarding area:
It is pretty dark when you get into the boarding area. It starts out fairly wide and the path gradually gets narrower and narrower until the guests are divided into a single file row. There can be some pushing and shoving. I would suggest that you and the rest of the people with you try to wait in the preshow room until most of the other guests have left if you can. That way, there won't be as many people pushing against you to board.

The Ride:
It is very dark in spots. As people have written, it is mostly funny scary.
There is one part where your ride car will be turning around and going backward down a hill; that is just before the graveyard. In the graveyard scene (starting at 5 minute 55 seconds in the video I linked above), there are a lot of ghosts popping up and screaming. The video doesn't show it really well because you can't hear the screams real well and the ghosts popping up look slow. In real life, the screams are much louder and the ghosts pop up more suddenly. Some people don't like that part because it is so un-expected.
Near the very end, you will see your ride car in a mirror and there will be a projection of a ghost in your car with you.

My 4 year old doesn't do loud noises and scary very well and he LOVED it. He was begging to go on it again! He was more scared during Snow White's Scary Adventure. Poor guy was crying and the ride couldn't end fast enough!

I think it's more the anticipation of the ride for your first time on it than anything else. When my younger brother was little, he would close his eyes all the way through because he thought it was going to be scary. After we showed him a video of the ride he realized it wasn't scary at all. Really, it's like Pirates of the Caribbean with ghosts instead of pirates ;) Have fun on your trip!

Boy...we must be the rare family...but I want to chime in that last year both my 6 year old son and my 10 year old daughter were totally freaked out by the beginning of Haunted Mansion and we left through the "chicken" exit with them both on the verge of crying and begging us to get them out of there. My friend's son has Aspergers, and my son shares some sensory issues that friend's son has. The "stretching room" at the beginning is dark and there are people talking in creepy voices as the room appears to stretch (the floor seems to be sinking and silly pictures appear on the wall). Then there is a crack of lightning (I think) and then people around us started screaming (to be funny). At that both of my kids completely lost it. The cast members running the ride weren't of any "help" as they are in character and they are supposed to look/act like dead people I guess...so they just continued to stare at us with "dead" expressions and pointed to the exit. We're going again in March and my kids have both already said that there is no way they are going on THAT ride! :scared1: So...most likely you will enjoy it...but I did want to give you another opinion because not everyone likes loud noises or surprises.
