from what of the video i watched and what you guys are sayingi think i am going to try it it dose not seem to bad. I have also read about theo tower and i know it drops multiple times. we have an amusment park not to far from me that has someting Called the space shot which is like your tiptical drop tower and i love it. i love the sensation of dropping werid i know but it is true so that is whyi want to go on the tower.

It all depends on what you feel is scary. I'd say that HM, and even TOT, have little "shock" scariness - nothing jumps out at you that you aren't expecting - its meant to be more spooky.

As others have mentioned, both rides have segments of darkness (mostly in the preshow) with some flashes of light (like lightning) but otherwise its for the most part a tame ride, more for the spectacle.

My oldest, who likes to get herself worked up before some rides like TOT, first rode HM when she was three. When she came out, she was like "it was all fake, like Scooby Doo..."
 
Haunted Mansion is my dd6 favorite ride. Though the first time she rode it at 2 she had her eyes closed half the ride. :)

Tower of Terror is great. I think the theming is better than any other ride at WDW. It's really not scary though. And I know what you mean about loving the sensation of dropping. I love it too, which is why I love Tower of Terror so much.
