haunted mansion

Theres two portraits hanging up of two "gunmen" on the top left and right side of the back wall of the ballroom scene. Ghosts appear to came out of the portarit and have a duel with each other then return into the portrait.

When I was little I used to hate the Haunted Mansion but now I LOVE it and have to ride it over and over again.

The attraction is in dire need of some TLC. It has been neglected long enough. I say close it down as long as it takes to get it up to par with DL's version which puts ours to shame.

Summer or not, just about everytime is busy so it really doesnt make too much of a difference.

Well, obviously, it won't matter what you and I think, but it may be easy for you to be nonchalant about it since you live about 50 miles away. I don't want to assume anything, but you probably have more opportunities to visit WDW. I don't have that luxury and my whole family will be VERY disappointed if HM is closed when we visit in August. It DOES make a difference to us. :sad1:

Yes, "busy-ness" is relative. The parks are always busy, but you can't tell me that there is no difference in crowd level between summer and, say, January or February. Seems like that would be a much more "user friendly" time to shut down a major attraction (imho)

Yes. I do. The Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride in WDW and for that matter, the best ride I've ever been on. I LOVE IT! Can't get enough of it...

That said, it is in desperate need of a refurb, which is, as previously stated, rumored to happen this summer... Me and my 2 year old daughter are going to be awfully upset if it's down when we are there April 29th though... :scared:

Please, PLEASE let it be open end of April / beginning of May...

The thing about HM is that it is capable of moving a TON of people through per hour. Not many MK e-ticket attractions can match it. So, it really needs to be open during the peak capacity times. These are Spring Break weeks and Christmas to New Year's week. Rumor has it we're talking about a 4 month refurb. Going down in Jan would have had it down the same time as Splash (and RnR). So, you're down to summer or fall. I think we'd all agree it HAS to be open for MNSSHP. So, that means May or June to September. Makes perfect sense to me.

Honestly, it's my DS's far and away favorite attraction and we almost decided to put our whole trip off a year because of it. I'm really hoping it's still open for at least a few days after June 4, but I understand it really needs the work done. I also don't like the cavalier attitudes that those living near WDW take toward refurbs and others' disappointment. It is much more of a disappointment for those of us who live far away and who can't visit as often. We visited 2 years ago and will again this year, but it may be awhile after that before we can afford to go back. So we really want to see the Mansion (of all attractions) open. But I do understand that it has to be down during someone's vacation. I think most everyone on these boards understands that as well.

Why on earth would they close down one of the most popular attractions during the height of the summer season? I guess they're Disney and can do what they want, but that doesn't make sense to me. Why not do it at a less busy time of year?
Simple. Disney knows that there are people who can and will cancel their trip if they know the Haunted Mansion will be closed when they're planning on going. By closing it during the summer, Disney is hoping that the loss will be less keenly felt. Also, it will reopen in September... just in time for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and you can bet your Doombuggy that the Mansion's reopening (fully restored and with all new effects) will play heavily in the ads for that.

You'd be amazed at the people who don't. I know a MK Custodial CM who was loudly berated by a guest for a full 15 minutes. The reason? She (and her family) had arrived in the MK the day after PotC had closed for refurbishment last year (this guest even went to far as to demand that the flume be refilled and her family be allowed to ride).

Believe me when I say that when an attraction must close -- even if it's a temporary downtime -- we get earfuls, both CMs and Management alike. We KNOW that if an attraction as popular as the HM goes down (it has more fan websites than any other single Disney attraction), City Hall will be up to it's eyeballs in complaints. But as pointed out above, "it has to be down during someone's vacation."

Well daily I keep checking disneyworld.com for signs it will be down for referb. So far nothing has been posted about the HM being down. Were heading down early May. It would be a dissapointment if it was down when were there. As for now I have the hope it will be open. Lets just say were going to hit this ride first as we always do just in case. lol

I wouldn't do that since it certainly isn't that person's fault. BUT, I may cancel my trip. So far there is nothing posted in the operational notices area of the calendar for August. At what point would they let people know? After it's too late to cancel?

I would much rather not see an attraction at all then go on one and be disappointed greatly because the upkeep on it is less then acceptable.

What’s worse, being bummed out because 1 ride out 100 is closed or going on that 1 ride and remembering that it was poorly maintained and having your whole attitude towards it change?

On a side note I don't live 50 miles from Disney and if I did I would be on the Haunted Mansion right now.:rotfl2:

The last time I was on HM was 2004, so yes... things may have gone downhill since then, but I didn't notice a single thing wrong with it. Probably because I'm not looking for upkeep, small details, etc. I'm just enjoying myself.

My attitude about it being closed will be a whole lot worse than remembering some small detail about maintenance because, again, I would be focused on enjoying myself instead of noticing what is wrong

Sorry. I looked at your signature and thought I saw "Lady Lake" instead of "Lake Worth." 50 miles vs. 184 miles. :rolleyes1

Count my DH & I in as big fans of the Haunted Mansion and it's a must see during our visits.

HM is my favorite & I can prove it! My home office is decorated in HM'esque. I won't ever tell DH how much I've spent in HM memorabilia. One day I'm going to organize it all (right now it's just on shelves & the floor, LOL) and do the room up right. DH wants to set our train & monorail up permanently, with each section breaking off into a different section of the park (complete with all the accessories). I just need to figure out how to elevate it, since we don't have an extra room just for display purposes, so the room would still need to be functional and accessible. My dream is to live close enough to do day (or lunch hour):hmghost: :maleficen trips...NY is way tooooooo far for that. I heard there was room for one more Happy Haunt! Pick me! BTW, I was dressed as a HM hostess for the first 2006 MNSSHP- I'll have to have DD13 show me how to post the pic.

Haven't been to Disney in about 10 years (going in April with the kids for the first time), but Haunted Mansion was always my favorite.

I've got a question though. How busy in the ride these days? I see that it's no longer a Fastpass ride (this is my first visit with Fastpass too:) ), so is there usually a long wait? Are there good times (besides the parade) and bad times to go?
