Haunted Mansion & Toy Story Ride & FP Strategy

How does the Haunted Mansion (overlay) affect the ride order &/or FP collection strategy?

Assuming i do FL during MM & then pick up a SM FP at :00, I would then normally do the "left side" of the park (BTMRR, Splash, Winnie Pooh, HM, Pirates) then an Indy FP.

Would it now be better to get a FP for HM? Would it be better to get the HM FP BEFORE an Indy FP or after?


Also, what time of day would it be best to try the new Toy Story ride? (Assuming i'm in DCA SOMETIME between 11am & 3pm?) I normally pick up a Soarin' & Griz FP as soon as i walk in. Would it be best to ride immediately after picking up these FPs?

Sounds like HM w/o FP the first 40 - 60 min. after Gen. Adm. opening is STILL a good plan. If we need to kill time, we'll do Tom's Hi-Jacked Island or maybe the canoes again (if open) we had a good time on those.

Also, for once I'd like to take the train ALL THE WAY around one of these times.


Danger.....what are your thoughts on the best time to try Toy Story in DCA (between 11am - 3pm)?

I would go to TSM as early as possible-then you can ride it again if you want.

Last time DD9 and I used the single rider line several times as we have already done TSM alot (we were lucky enough to win tickets to the AP preview). 2 of the 4 times we stood in single rider line we were still seated together. Once because I think the CM saw DD's Birthday button and the 2nd time because there was a group of 6 together and she couldn't find another group of 2 fast enough. This may or not work for your group depending on size and ages.

If you do use the single rider line be aware that even if one of you goes first you might return sooner. Due to the way the rides moves inside by DD's car came back after mine even though she left first. When I got off the ride and was looking for her she was behind me calling "Mom"

Have fun, we'll be there tomorrow too as DD9's school is on min. day. Look for my purple bagallini! We'll be the ones getting as many PP pix as possible. My last day to order CD is 10-12.

While it'll be hot today and tomorrow, GRR may not have FP. They don't offer them all the time. Only certain days of the week. Enjoy!

From what I have read, TSMM still has the morning rush, and then dies down slightly in the afternoon. However, with the crowds this week, I wouldn't expect to see lines under 40 min at any time. If you and Padewan Alec can split up, I'd definitely take advantage of the single rider que.

Hope you have a great visit! I'm staying at the PP for the first time with some Dis friends next weekend. I'm movin' on up!

Would it be bad form to "split up" with a 9 y/o (who looks 8) boy? Mrs. Hound would kick my b*tt if she found out. One 40 min. line wouldn't be too bad....i'll get a corny dog & churro to "dine on" while we pass the time.

DM, they have a pretty nice cement pond out back of the PP.... & if a guy in the lobby with a bow tie picks up your luggage.....don't smack him....he's not trying to take off with your bags.

We went on Haunted Mansion early in the day this past Saturday the 4th and the standby wait was short. It was maybe 15 minutes or so. Maybe 20. This was probably around 11:00 a.m. And we walked right onto Pirates with NO WAIT AT ALL twice in a row just before HMH. However, when another friend joined us and we returned to HMH at around 6:00 p.m., the standby time said 45 minutes but it took us closer to 50 minutes. The queue was twisting around to areas that I have never gone in that line before, reserved for those extra crowded times! Also, Pirates' line was super long and it, too, twisted into the 'back alleys' - or what I called the "ghetto of Disneyland" - to accommodate the large crowds.

We went on Toy Story shortly after DCA opened on Friday, October 3rd, and we were escorted from the special GCH entrance past Grizzly River Rapids and over to the TSMM line. It looked like we would have NO wait at all, but the ride broke down while we were in the queue, so that added about a 25 minute wait time to the line. Otherwise, we would have gotten right on it in no time! Then, during the TOTP that night, we rode TSMM again and the line was much longer and slower, but the sign said it was 25 minutes. Finally, we rode TSMM at around 2:30 or so on Saturday afternoon, and it said 30 minutes, I think.

When we visited DLR in early September, we found that being there at the opening of the park was the best strategy for TSM. At opening, we waited about 15-20 minutes compared to 45 minutes/ 1 hour during the rest of the day. We rode TSM at least once a day since we totally fell in love with this ride. Its SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!! Enjoy!

Hound, my only data points on HMH were Thanksgiving week a couple times. While I have gotten HMH FPs, it is sort of like BTMRR FP in that the line usually does not get that long and FPs are often not that useful. Last time I skipped HMH FP and just did standby for 20 minutes. I mean, is it worth it to use a FP cycle for HMH and then leave and have to come back later to reduce a 20-30 minute standby wait to 10 minutes with FP? If you are going to do FP, then I would not use a morning FP cycle on HMH. I would stick to Space, Splash and Indy. Pick up an HMH FP in the afternoon if convenient.

As for TSMM, DS14, DS12 and I rode the WDW version about 10 times last May. It is really addicting. Plan to ride it several times. We used the SR line at WDW about half the time and also used FP - something the DCA version does not have . Obviously we have not been on the DCA version yet. If it were me I would take one day to get to DCA early, snag a Soarin FP on the way to TSMM and do TSMM first thing. Then I would do TSMM SR right after that. Maybe SR several times LOL.

HydroGuy: i'm glad my sister and I are not the only addicted people to TSM. We felt silly riding it so much especially when you have to wait every single time to ride it (20-45min) but it was SO worth it. On our last night, we rode it 3 times in a row I cant wait to try the HS version. I dont know if the 2 rides are identical?

I was going to suggest trying the SR line for Indy, but if Mrs Hound would object to SR line on Toy Story, I bet she'd have a real problem with Indy. So...never mind!

Wish we could have ridden TSMM more, but the 25+ wait in 95 degree heat made it less appealing. Such a great ride!
