I have ridden the Haunted Mansion more times than I can count. I always love to look for new and different things that I've never noticed before. For example, the wedding ring in the exit sidewalk is a really cool "insider" touch. Does anyone have any hidden secrets that most riders haven't noticed?

Not a secret, but have you noticed the chess pieces in the architecture of the building? They are on the corners and along the top edge of the roof. Very cool!

I like the Hidden Mickey on the dinner table. The plates at one of the settings are in a Mickey shape.

:) Haunted Mansion is one of my favorite rides.

The pole remnant is there, but the ring is there too. I've seen them both.

There is only 1 ring, actually there are several little round rings but there's one that actually resembles the cross-section of an engagement ring (stone setting, etc).

These "rings" are the remains of guide poles for the exit gate, which has since been (long) removed.

There are no real rings in the pavement, but there are several cross sections remains from the poles that once held up the exit gate.

The one that everyone calls the "ring" is the remains of a post that helped support a turnstile at the attraction's exit back when it was still an E-ticket ride. It appears to have been sawn off at the level of the cement, & then someone later tried to pry out the last little bit with a screwdriver, which broke off at the tip, providing the "setting" for the "ring."

Here is a thread with pictures that shows you how to find the ring:

Notice the fresh-cut rose on one of the headstones in the graveyard... placed there daily by CMs... Do you know which stone has it?

I LOVE the Haunted Mansion! I could ride it over and over! I heard about the hidden Donald from these boards and I found it on our last trip. I also liked the hidden Mickey in the place settings and the rose on the grave. I had no idea that the rose was placed there everyday!

Did you know...

...if you are in the WDW Haunted Mansion, the ceiling of both of its two “stretching rooms” moves upwards. However, if you visit The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland, the room is actually a large elevator that takes you down one level. Why the difference?
This effect was originally created out of necessity. When the original Haunted Mansion was being built in Disneyland back in 1963, the empty building it was going into had been constructed years earlier and was too small to fit everything the Imagineers wanted inside. So, they dug a “basement” to the mansion and connected it (by a tunnel that can’t be seen by guests) to a separate attraction building — which, thanks to Disneyland’s limited space had to be built literally on the other side of the existing Disneyland Railroad tracks. The Imagineers designed the “stretching room” to take guests down one level, under the tracks, and over to the attraction building!!!

Also, I have a trivia question for you all. (I know the answer, as I am from the old school and know you are not allowed to ask a trivia question unless you can provide the answer. . .):

Who can tell me where I would find "Pepper's Ghost" in The Haunted Mansion?

In the graveyard, one of the "singing busts" is Walt. I believe he is second from the right.

No mention of Walt at all here: http://www.doombuggies.com/secrets_graveyard2.htm
Each bust is actually a named character. They are, from left: Ned Nub (Jay Meyer), Uncle Theodore (Thurl Ravrenscroft), Rollo Rumkin (Verne Rowe), Phineas Puck (Bob Ebright), and Cousin Al (Chuck Schroeder.)

Hitch,

Actually, the bust is not of Walt Disney, but of Thurl Ravenscroft, one of the singers from the Mello Men, who sing the attraction's theme song, Grim Grinning Ghosts. He also provided the vocals in many Disney theme park attractions.

Oh, and Pepper's Ghost is the technique used to create the dancing ghosts in the ballroom scene.

Here's the list of secrets for HM that were included in the secrets thread that's been floating around the DIS for like..what, a year now? lol. Hope you enjoy it!!

*If you're by the Haunted Mansion at night, look up at the top story right above the front door. If you watch it for a while you'll notice a light pass by it and some shadows, it looks like 2 people are walking by with a lantern.

*The chicken exit at the HM is themed to the rest of the mansion. There are even bells for each of the rooms that are used to 'call' the Master's Butlers and Servants.

*When you're in HM in the pre-board show (hall of portraits), look straight up when the lights go out and the lightning flashes. You see a "dead body" hanging from the celling!

*DID ANYONE KNOW THAT THE ONE-WINGED BAT REALLY HAS BOTH WINGS? ONE IS EXTENDED AS IF STRETCHING THE WING AND THE OTHER IS STILL BY THE SIDE OF THE BODY !!!Once you leave the stretching room and make your way through the queue to your doom buggy, You pass post to which the chains are attached. Those posts have bats at the "head" or top of them there are three "one-wing-stretched" posts. Look where you make your turns to change the direction the line moves.

*just before you board the doom buggy look for a table on the right that has a small lamp on it.there is a dictionary on the table that always open to the word ghost.go ahead take a look.....maybe youll be the 1000th ghost

*Look at the chair in front of the endless hall with the "floating candelabra. For hidden Donald?

*The engagement ring. To find it you will have to go past all of the tombs on the left. As you go through the big iron posts that "used" to house swinging gates look down on the pavement you will see where the "ring" is in the cement.

*Don't forget to stop another 30 feet down the sidewalk and visit the pet cemetery. Most people just walk right on by.

*And do you all know that now there is a tombstone with eyes on it that open for just an instant?

*Notice the fresh-cut rose on one of the headstones in the graveyard... placed there daily by CMs... Do you know which stone has it?

I should note that the list above isn't compiled from experience. Some of it is, much of it is, not all of it is. They're tips from other DISers - I just copied and pasted them all.

So, with that being said, you could be right, it may only be at Disneyland, and I apologize for making anyone crazy looking for it.

On the other hand, think of how entertaining it would be for so many other tourists who see the crazy DISer looking for a nonexistent pet graveyard!!!

Actually, there is a pet graveyard at the exit in the WDW attraction, on the left hand side. It is a few feet behind the iron fence, as you approach the exit. I'll try and post an image of it on my site as I prepare to upload the image galleries in the next few days. ::yes::
