Haunted Mansion Refurbishment 5-4-2015

So I just booked that week in May for a trip to Disney. i am bringing my mother who is 63. It's her first trip ever to Disneyland! One of the major things she wants to see is the Disneyland classics especially HM. One problem i've had with Disney is planning as close as a month out you get surprises. I picked this week because it looked like most of the major refurbishments are done and none of the classics will be down (except for PP but it may open the last day we are there).

So I check that first monday we are there and it says HM is down that day? Anyone know what is going on. I thought they just furbed this in january. You can't find any other info about how long and it feels kind of irresponsible to me that Disney announces things like this a month out. I mean people fly from all over for these trips.

Sorry I don't have any helpful information to share. But I'm wondering if you could tell me where you are finding this. We will be there that week, too, and I'd like to know what attractions will be down.

If you go to the Disneyland.com website and click on park hours. It will give you monthly schedules and if you hit the daily view tab you can see that days schedule. Refurbishments are at the bottom for each park. Only updated till may 4th currently.

It doesn't show as closed under the Disney Travel Agents site yet. Sometimes they are a little ahead of the Disney site, sometimes not... so no info there.

There have been rumors that there will be an update to HM for the 60th anniversary, perhaps that is what is going on? I don't know anything for sure, this is just a guess. See this article: http://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/201501/4397/

Any "educated guesses" on how long that (if that's what it is all about - and it sounds like a reasonable possibility) might take?

Many people are hoping and believe, including
myself, that it is related to the much highly anticipated return, like I've said before, none other than the phantom prodigal son himself, Monsieur Chapeau Boite Fantome!
Oh how I do hope that he does return to his rightful lair. And gives Constance a great fright!

Now showing for the 5th too. Incredibly frustrating that Disney throws these things out there so close to the date. I would have picked the following week if I knew. I know they can't always predict closures but any planned ones should be released beginning of the year for the year. It's one reason a Disneyland vacation is so difficult to plan for. The other annoying thing is when a major ride is down it causes much bigger lines at the rides all things we should be allowed to take into consideration before planning a several thousand dollar vacation. The Disney number that used to tell you refurb schedule was always the most updated and they aren't even doing that anymore.

Why don't you re-book to a different date?

I know how you feel about the refurbishments. We have had the same problems on trips.

I generally book trips 6 to 9 months out. So I never know what's going to be open when we go.

Even when there have been several attractions closed, I don't feel it really made a significant difference in other lines.

We are paying for an advertised experience. It's bad enough they announce so close to a date but if they can't even stick to what they advertise a month out then that's poor management of a company.

I can't move my dates don't know when we would go. Not going in busy summer.

Book a trip and cross your fingers is about all you can do these daze.
Disney's list of refurbishments is a sore subject for many long ranged booked trips.
For as long as I can remember it's been an issue.

I don't expect Disney to change the way they do things now.

They probably have to prioritize certain refurbs and have to wait to see how certain ones are going before scheduling the others. Even Disney probably doesn't have unlimited man power and resources. Some refurbs probably require specific people that have to be penciled in. If they are booked doing something else, DL can't say 6 months in advance when that person is going to be available to do the work. It's not all general electrical or carpentry or mechanics. Some of it is highly specialized. I mean, I don't work there and don't know for sure, but in general companies want to make everything easy on their customers and make them happy, so I imagine if in was feasible they wouldn't wait until the last minute.

Yesterday Haunted Mansion broke down for 30 minutes and kept stopping throughout my ride through. They don't always know if something is going to need to go down. And technically they don't have to tell us about refurbs months in advance. They aren't obligated to tell us anything at all. There is no guarantee that even if a ride isn't scheduled that it won't go down for a week due to other issues.

Darn. HM is one of my favorites (WDW) and I wanted to see the DL version (I did ride this in 2000). Soarin is my mom's favorite and it's closed as well on our dates.

We're both out of luck.

I do get the need and that's kind of the problem with going in between peak periods.

I also know that you can't always plan out in advance. Sometimes you have to see how work goes on projects and as you have slots open up you pop in the next on the list. Hopefully no more slots open for that week.

We will be there May 11-16. I hope it is up and running at least part of that. My kids haven't seen HM at DL without the Nightmare Before Christmas theme and they are so excited for this ride.
