Haunted Mansion Holiday Overlay?

Now if only they would do a really fun Sleeping Beauty's Spooky Castle for Halloweentime, that would be so great! They could deck it out in creepy decor and eerie lighting and dangle all kinds of scary moss and vines from it. It would also glow throughout the park, just like the Winter Castle does during the holidays, but in a spooky type of way!! And they could have all the villains hanging around the Spooky Castle - which of course, would be surrounded by 'thick fog' at night - to pop out at you and pose for pictures in front of it. It would be so cool. I am sure there would be some folks who would hate it, but I think it would be very popular overall! Who doesn't love the idea of a haunted Castle?

I would love to see them make it Malificent's Castle!!! Every night like they do with the snow, they could do a light show that made the castle look like it was covered in Brambles and Vines like in the movie. Maybe even in my dream world have the Prince ride up on his horse go through the castle and a few light booms later, come out with Sleeping Beauty! Or you could have the villians come out of the castle instead :)

Yep! That's a good idea too! Maleficent's Castle! In either the case of Maleficent's Castle or a Spooky Castle for Halloween season, the Castle could glow and shine throughout the park, just like the Winter version, but alternate spooky effects and colors at certain intervals, just like the icicles light up and turn off on the Winter Castle during the holiday season. I just picture creepy moss and vines and spider webs and other sinister adornments dangling off of the Castle, and lots of fog and mist for people to get lost in. It seems like that Castle is just begging to have something done to it for Halloween season but I guess the Imagineers just don't share our vision, Fairycat!!! I am sure someone has tossed it around a brainstorming meeting at Disney before, but for whatever reason they don't want to go all out for Halloweentime.:sad2:

Maleficent's Castle would be cool! When you said Spooky Castle I thought of her too because it is a logical fit. They could put heavy bramble up around the walls and the her at the top either as the dragon or human form. The prince could be climbing up the walls, sword in hand. Some sort of creature could be just poking out of the water in the moat. The villians could stand outside the castle for photo ops. So many possiblities! :cool1:

I'm sure the reason they don't go all out at Halloween is because they soon have to go all out for Christmas. It would probably be too much work.

It would be a lot of work, that's true.

Another potential place just begging for a real Halloween makeover during that time of year is Tom Sawyer's Island/Pirate's Lair! They could really make that a spooky island by throwing in thick fog (thick fog is a must for spooky ambience!) and sticking some villains over there to mingle with the pirates. Or just really, REALLY play up the whole scary pirate thing. There are lots of possibilities for that island during Halloween. (Heck, they could even make that island into a great place for an Easter Egg hunt during Easter time!) It's got to be money that holds them back from doing it, and the fact that it would be a lot of work just before the Christmas stuff had to go up - AND because a lot of people don't celebrate nor care about Halloween too much as a holiday. They see it as being on the same level as like Valentine's Day or St. Patrick's Day - just another reason for Hallmark to put out holiday cards!

The whole concept of a night and day thing with the castle is a great idea. By day mild mannered Sleeping Beauty by night exciting and "scary" Maleficent. It could be done and it wouldn't be that expensive after the initial expense. And the villians are popular so that might bring different people in so that would make it a money maker too. And it could actually be done year round if it was done as a night and day thing. The whole idea brings to mind the Ridley Pearson books from the Kingdom Keepers series about Disneyworld. They were written for kids but an enjoyable read for all Disney fans. I loved it.

I havent been on since I was 12 because it was closed for overlay my last 2 trips :sad1:
