Haunted Mansion Holiday Overlay This Year!

Well, I hope we don't see (another) one of these :offtopic:
Here's some info, but a new thread might be in order.

Here are changes I've heard about or viewed photos of, but not yet seen in person:
The floral Mickey Mouse has not been redone for Halloween this year.
Minnie and Mickey costumes have changed, and the critics are all over poor Minnie.
New Halloween tree decorations are up.
My personal unfavorite is that the Pumpkin Princess is gone.

Really? They didn't do the floral Mickey at the entrance to DL this year? That was one of their best holiday touches! I can't believe they didn't do that again! And they shouldn't have removed the Princess. Hmmm....I thought if anything, they would do everything they have done previously and MORE this year. I didn't expect them to take things away!

Well, thanks so much, Perlster for providing the info, and yes, maybe I or we can start a new thread specifically about new Halloween decorations that anyone has seen at DLR this year. I will be there in three days, but I like to know what to expect!

In years past they've had Fastpass for NBC HM. Do they have Fastpass this year?

Yes they had fastpasses this year.

Lisa, you just read my mind! I was literally just thinking to myself, "I wonder if they are now piping in a gingerbread smell like they do on Small World Holday with the peppermint smell," and then you mentioned it! :goodvibes :thumbsup2 Anyway, I BET that is what they are doing. I don't think the smell was detectable so much because it was so fresh (even though it was fresh) as much as the scent was being piped in through vents. Either way - I LOVE that they did that! Whether it is fresh or piped in, I thnk that is a GREAT touch to add to it! Now it makes me wonder if they did that last year and we just didn't notice it. We rode HMH probably 5 or 6 times in two trips last year and I don't think I noticed it. Then again, the peppermint scent in Small World Holiday is very faint and subtle, and literally, if you turn your head in a different direction, you will miss it.

Wow, I was already looking forward to riding HMH this week. Now I am super excited!

Seewhatimesdone, since you got to DLR on the first 'official' day of the decorations being up and out, did you notice anything new or different that was not up anywhere in DLR last year?? Obviously, all the usual pumpkins are out, but is there anything new we should all be looking for?

Actually I did not see anything new around the park except for the new Mickey and Minnie Halloween costumes. Also there are some new figurines for the anniversary of NBC that you should check out on mainstreet. The only new things I saw were in the HM. I went to Tower of Terror thinking they would have the decorations up but they didn't! Maybe because it was only the second day :confused3 I don't know if they plan to put them up later.

I'm pretty sure that these are there every year but I saw the day of the dead skeletons for the first time; they were so cool! And then of course there's new merchandise. Just a head's up - there is a halloween t-shirt that you can't get in the parks anymore because it's sold out. My mom got hers like a month ago and we had people asking her all day where she got it. It has a ton of halloween characters, it's orange and white with rhinestones. However, you can get it in the World of Disney store in DTD. So hurry before they're all gone!

We went Friday night and absolutely LOVED the HM!!!!!!

My family just moved to CA. We are from the East. We have been to WDW ohh, maybe 12x and never DL. Moving here brings us the thrill of AP's. We live approx 20 minutes away from DL!! :mickeyjum So Friday night we are off to DL for the Halloween decorations....and let me say they are FABULOUS!!!

Yes, there are FASTPASSES for the HM. We arrived around 7pm and my DS ran to get us all FP and FP's stated come back between 7:30pm-8:30pm. SWEET!! We grabbed food and at 7:30pm headed back to HM!!!!! I cannot stress how AWESOME this ride is....AWESOME!!!! Whether or not you like NBC, DL has done a fantastic job with the decorations!!! My only wish is that the ride was 30 minutes long....I could go on that OVER AND OVER and OVER again.

Thanks for the reply. When I get there on Thursday, I will make a beeline to World of Disney and see if I can find the shirts. I at least want to SEE it even if I don't buy it!

Maybe they are NOT decorating the Tower of Terror this year. It seems like, since you were there on the first 'official' day of Halloweentime, the decorations would have been up in ToT already. They may have skipped it this year, as they did with the floral Halloween Mickey at the entrance to DL. If anything, I would expect them to do more things as the years progress, not less!

DD (7) and I love the NBC HM overlay. DD actually prefers it over the normal HM. LOL!!!

We are set to go for our overnight trip later in October but I am thinking that we need to get down much sooner than that. We love the holiday seasons at DL. :cloud9:

No, no guessing, I believe via my posts it is completely clear as to my very strong sentiments towards this overlay, and while you and others that are like minded have a right to your views and opinions, so do I! perhaps it needs to be pointed out, regarding ones right to free speech, even if someone does not like what one says, too bad, I have has as much right to state what I do not like, as much as anyone has in stating what they do like. Just in case one is not familiar with the first amendment, it is regarding the freedom of the press, the right to petition, the right to hold a peaceful assembly, the right to believe or not in any religion, and ah..... the right to free speech baby! there is a reason for that being a part of our, not just yours or mine, but OUR bill of rights.

Though you pointed out the amendment & freedom of speech, it's better if you have nothing GOOD to say, you SHOULDN'T say anything at all..

At least that's how I was taught.

This thread for the holiday overlay, WOO I'm SO stoked for it !! :goodvibes
I prefer the holiday overlay more than the original - but the original is still GREAT ! :thumbsup2

Sherry E, I hope that you are right! I've never noticed the peppermint scent in Small World Holiday but will keep my fingers crossed for it and gingerbread on NBC HM! :thumbsup2

Then when I use my peppermint holiday Method cleaner in my kitchen I will be reminded of DL -- just like I am reminded of Soarin' when I use my Simply Tangerine Clorox works now -- ummm!

I know about the gingerbread house changing each year, I can only hope that this will be the last year for HMH, I will never understand how people can actually prefer this to the original HM, nor understand how anyone can accept these particular huge changes that are made to the original ride attraction, I so hate this overlay, it makes me sick!

We get that you don't like the overlay. You have posted it about on every single thread about it.

But I'm not sure why you feel like you have to come in and rain on everyone's parade who enjoys it.

Not every one has the same likes and dislikes. Its what makes the world a more interesting place.

Its fine to say "you know what, I don't care for it and therefore I wont ride the ride while it is in place" but to make it a personal quest to tell everyone how vile you think it is at every opportunity, only makes you look like a angry person.

Personally I find the Haunted Mansion kind of overly macabre with the whole theme of the bride killing her husband (cutting off his head no less) and I prefer not to ride it because of that. That's why I enjoy the overlay, it takes the icky-ness (TO ME) factor out of it.

The ride used to feature "Emily the Bleeding Bride" (1969-2006) until they turned her into "Constance Hatchaway, the "Black Widow Bride" which changed the bride character from a forlorn figure into a greedy, murdering backstabber who married - and beheaded - five men.

I prefer a little happier storyline in the happiest place on earth.. buts just ME!

The peppermint aroma in IASWH only seems to be noticeable when you sail through what appears to be a candy factory. You will see some candy canes up ahead, and then suddenly there is the faintest whiff of peppermint. We noticed it back in 2000, and I was hoping it was still there last year. My friend noticed first on IASWH last year and I missed it, as did our other friend. Then we rode it again, and I caught it that time. Then we rode it a third time with a totally different friend and I missed it but she caught it. So it is really easy to miss, but it IS there! I imagine the gingerbread scent in the HMH is like that too - tunr your head the wrong way and it is gone! Now that I think of it, the orange blossom scent in Soarin' is kind of faint, too, isn't it? Or maybe it just seems faint because of my sinuses!!!!

I didn't know Method had a peppermint holiday scent! I MUST get that!

I have as much right to state what I do not like and why, as you all, have to gush over what you seem to enjoy. I do not have to keep my mouth shut to keep anyone happy, if one says how much they like something, but if I counter it, that makes me wrong? of course it does not, I believe that people that approve of this overlay, really do not appreciate the HM, for if they did, they would not approve of it (the changes) either.
It really is too bad, that certain people cannot understand what I have posted regarding my stance on this subject, for if I can try to understand and accept what people are saying, that like these changes, then it is really very sad indeed that my perspective and opinions cannot be met with the same reception. Furthermore, no one has to like nor agree with what anyone is saying, in order to understand and to accept what the message is.

I love the Haunted Mansion overlay!!!!

We'll be there in two weeks from today and I'm so excited I can't stand it!!!! :cool1:  :woohoo: :yay: HM will be one of the first things we do and we plan to ride it many times during our 5 days there. :dance3:

You signature is already making me miss it!

Regarding certain posters - let's just ignore posts that are attempting to ruin the fun. While it's obvious that everyone is aware of their right to free speech it appears not everyone is aware of tact.

Anywho, it seemed like they had a lot more dog bones this year for Zero. He's so cute! I also noticed while I was on the Mark Twain Riverboat that at the very very top of the mansion there is a red light that can be seen through the window floating around; I think it's zero! But it's hard to see so keep your eyes open; it can probably only be seen at night too. You may be able to see it from Pirate's Lair.

That is cool to know about zero floating around! WHat level of the Riverboat were you on? As I have stated before my dd is seriously into NBC and loves zero I would love to get her to see that!

Thanks!

My kids just asked me today if we could go down to D-Land and see the NBC decorations. They remember it from 2 years ago.

I have to put some money together and can hopefully get enough for annual passes before they take it down.... I can't wait!

I agree. We're killing a dead horse here with this debate on why people have the right to say what they want even though its a mood killer. Whatever. Over it.

More dog bones ?!?!! How great is that ! I'm totally gonna keep an eye out for that and for the red light floating in the window of the Mark Twain Riverboat. If I'm not mistaken though (correct me if I'm wrong), Zero's nose is a jack-o-lantern. Does it glow red or a fiery orange ?

We were on the top level although i'm sure you could see it from the second. But on the very top level you can see over the trees and such. It's cool to see Jack's sleigh on the roof!

Fortunately, they leave it up till January which is nice for people who can't make it in October. It's a nice Halloween or Christmas treat!

Well it was kind of hard to make out but it looked orange, maybe orangish red. I spotted it at the last minute and I thought maybe it was like a candle being held by a ghost but I thought I could make out something sheet like and my first though was zero!

Wow, sounds awesome! I love the overlay so much. I hope that I can sometime in October to see it!

Off Topic: 21 posts till 1000th post, wootastic!

I see that you love ToT :) Definately my favorite t.v. and ride. I know the spiel and people always look at me like i'm crazy :rotfl: now I just whisper it to myself so no one thinks i'm creepy :lmao:

And congrats on the posts :thumbsup2

Didn't know how I would react to seeing it for the first time....but I enjoyed it very much. I like Tim Burton though as well. So needless to say to say I enjoyed the movie too.

Just curious Giselle...do you decorate for the holidays? Halloween, Christmas? Do you also dislike when mainstreet gets decorated? Not trying to be mean just curious.
