It all depends on the child. My dd went on HM at 5 and 7 and was not at all scared. Our son went at 4 and 6 and was quite scared. He just has never liked characters in costume (Easter Bunny, etc.) but loved Mickey. He had a thing at Disney about "bad guys" and would not go to Little Mermaid because Ursula was in there. So it really just depends on the child.

Yes it depends on the child, but it is not that bad. Now the only part I can see might be a problem is when your buggy turns to face the mirror and you see the ghosts sitting with you...There friendly though:wave2:

I plan on bringing my 7 month old onto it... get him started right!

I think the scariest part might be the beginning before you are loaded onto the ride. Everyone is in a small room that stretches, gets dark and a ghost appears on the ceiling. If they are prepared for that I think the rest isn't too bad.

When we were there a couple of months ago was the first time I noticed scared little kids. Two kids (different parents) were almost hysterical but the parents insisted on taking them on the ride (there is a chicken exit - all you have to do is ask).

A friend and I tried to reassure a little girl in line behind us that it wasn't that scary. I think she was about 7. She didn't like the music at all as we were standing in line.

Moral of the story is if it looks like your kids are freaked out - ask for the chicken exit and wait till they are older.

My 2 1/2 yeqr old loved it in April! We rode it 3 times!!! She can't wait to go back and try it again! We have a c with the Ghostie song and it scares me that she knows all the words!

boy or girl? I've found through tons of field trips during the past 10 years that the boys are often more scared of rides than the girls! My twin 4-year old daughters loved it!

My DD6 makes sure that everyone knows that this is one of her very favorites! She has ridden it since she was 4, but she has NEVER ridden it without her glow necklaces on around her neck ;)

First I'd ask them if they want to go. Also, do you have a vacation planning video or anything that shows some of the scenes inside? Might help them decide whether they do want to. From what I've seen, they seem to be fine once past the first room, which does get dark and loud and tends to startle them for a few seconds. I doubt many of the younger kids notice what's happening on the ceiling in that scene though.

What do your kids like? Are they fine on Snow White? Pirates? Nothing but Dumbo? That could give you some clues on how they might react in this ride.

DD was 5 and she rode HM 5 times!

My four year old daughter loves the ride and is not scared at all. Of course we point and talk about what we see all through the ride. As for the part where the ghost appears to be sitting with you--she thinks it quite funny to try and pat their head or tickle them. It is a dark ride and that can blow it for some kids. When she was unsure of the dark, her light up sneakers did the trick.

i plan on taking my 6 yr old gd. i would like to know if there is a way to bypass the streching room as the cm's in there totally freak me out (44)

We took our 3.5 yr old and 17 month old on it last year, and our 3.5 yr old asked to go on it again! ::yes:: We tell our kids it's "Disney scary" and not real, etc... :)

It depends on the child.

My now 8 year old was always hesitant but decided to try it when she was 6 on Halloween night!! She held on to me for dear life but got threw it. Then she went on again several time last year at age 7.

Now her younger sister who was 4 this past trip in December begged me to take her and her big sister on. That she wouldn't be scared. So I did, against my better judgement...plus DH wasn't around for moral support. Well, she freaked in the room. I was mortified. I didn't know I could get out if I wanted to. So I grinned and beared it. She cried all the way to the ride itself. Once we got on the ride, she was fine. Then she begged me again and again to go on it and we ended up going on it 5 times!! She was just afraid of the unknown. Once she knew what was going to happen she was fine. Sorry to those who thought I was torturing my DD. I really would have left if I knew I could but then I think my DD would have never tried the ride again and realized how much fun it is so in the long run I guess it's good I didn't know I could leave!

I was concerned taking my 5 year old last year. I made sure she didn't look up in the stretching room. I didn't want to explain why the person was hanging up there. Plus, that was the part that freaked me out as a kid. We told her to scream when she wanted to, and laughed at the ghosts etc. I was concerned with the part where the hand is coming out of the coffin. We had lost my grandfather and she attended the funeral. I was concerned that she would link that to the funeral. I think she was a little nervous the first time, but she did ride it again. We just always told her it was fake and made it funny. She ended up liking the ride. Now, thinking about how she liked it, I let her see Haunted Mansion the movie. There are parts that really scared her while watching. I asked her if she wanted to leave. She said NO. SO I just again made jokes and tried to find things that were on the ride. Saying, "We saw that at Disney!" Hope that helps a little.

We brought our then 3 almost 4 yr old on the ride and..............he loved it! I think the ambience before the actual ride begins may scare some little ones, but just hold them tight and talk them through it. The ride itself "was fun Mommy!" He can't wait to go again.......

Thank-you for the replies. I'll dig out our Dis planning dvd and see if there is anything on there. I've asked the kids and they both said YES! So, we'll give it a try (knowing I just have to ask for the chicken exit if either one freaks out)

Can't wait!! Daisy:sunny:

My DD was 3 when she rode it the first time, and she did surprisingly well. MY Dh and I just pointed out all the "funny, silly" ghosts and she had a good time.

She is almost 5 now, and she seen The Haunted Mansion movie with Eddie Murphy at a sleep over to a cousins house. She can't wait to ride again.

I think if you tell them what to expect they'll be OK.

Good Luck
