Haunted Mansion expanding

Why is this needed (probably to make a HM retail location near the attraction)? Didn't they just remove things in this area to make the walkways more open, so now they add things to make walkways smaller?
We will see if it affects the pathways but besides the Exit shop (which might use space that used to be part of Splashes Q)
I don't see too much affecting walking space, I think they are planning on redoing the fountain area and I'd assume make it more open feeling from the pictures

Yeah, but this is Disney we're talking about.... 😁
I think this is a great project to free up the Magnolia Gardens area that's often overrun with the HM line. My immediate thoughts went to downtime of the HM and how long the project will take. Given that they say it will start in January, that means it will be when HMH goes down to remove the overlay. It will be interesting to see if HM stays under refurb for longer than usual or has to close again at some point prior to the overlay re-install in August. I bet HM stays open most of the time the construction is going on.

Another interesting refurb question will be whether they have to close the NOS train station at any point to accommodate the construction immediately in front of it. The article mentions new theming and trees being planted in the area.

I honestly feel like DIsney has No idea where they want to take Tomorrowland

Avatar is coming to DLR and while, DCA is the park that needs it more...I bet that is partly on what they are waiting on for TL.

I wonder how long this will take..January to late March? April?
My guess is HM stays down through February for removal of the overlay, then closes again in early August (maybe 1-2 weeks earlier than usual). I have no idea, but I find it hard to believe that HM will be closed for any significant period of time. That part of the park would have no people eating attractions if both HM and Splash are closed during spring break and summer. I don't think DL park ops will be pleased if HM is down the first half of the year, on top of Splash already being down. That only leaves Winnie the Pooh in the area!

I wonder if the HM project impacts the Railroad and the NO Station.

It's immediately in front of the area. The old HM Fastpass area is also right in front of the train station, which looks to be at least part of where the HM queue expansion is going.

They also have that fire damaged building at the NOS train station they still need to fix. They've been operating with only 2 trains, instead of 3, since the fire in December. NOS also is where the trains refill water. If the station closes, I wonder if the whole train has to be closed.

One other question I have is whether the train will need to close at some point in connection with Tiana's. The train bridge crosses over the construction zone in Pooh Corner.

I wonder if Disneyland is doing this because they know the area needs a new draw since Splash is closed and Tiana's Adventure is not open yet. I like that Disneyland is revitalizing NO Square.

You are very much correct. I am guessing my opinion...is that work will be done from January through March and be ready in early April. The Railroad and HM might be closed for 3 months and then reopen.

Fantasmic is also supposed to come back in "the spring" so they may want as much of this done as possible before the area starts clogging up again at night.

AHH Fantasmic yes!! I forgot about that!!! Yes I think all of this will be done by early spring and at the latest May.

I disagree simply because early in the year is when there is less park attendance and historically there have been more refurbs then. I do not think they would be willing to close HM during the summer months at all.

Like Joseph821 mentioned, I would place my bets on construction in that area happening before April or late April at the very latest. If they are smart, they will do all they need to do on that zone at the same time. (New areas, train station fix, etc). Not too worried about the train closing for the new Splash, I think they'll just put a covering on it.

Next year is also a HM Anniversary year (55!) and I'm very certain they will do something to celebrate, crossing my fingers for an after hours event. So I doubt they want it to be closed in early August.

I hope all the work is done by late spring.........I do not think the Railroad will be closed for a long time with Tiana's construction. Disneyland has been very busy withe refurbs lately all the summer refurbs and now Space Mountain in Sept.
