Hate to do this, but have a topic about abortion...

Babar - you are a wonderful friend. You showed the kind of compassion that we all hope we can find in a true friend. To not agree and still be able to be there for your friend is incredible.

Jenny - I had read your story online just a few weeks ago. You've lived an amazing life. So sorry that you are now are in such a difficult place - healthwise and emotionally. Please take care of yourself.

I'm pro-choice - in the sense that I am very glad to be able to choose NOT to have an abortion. Abortion should not be used a method of birth control, but in some situations it is the only logical choice. That doesn't make it easy for those who are faced with that decision. My heart goes out to you Jenny, and to your friend Babar.

Babar, It was incredibly kind of you to be there for your friend. I'm sure your support meant the absolute world to her. I know it must have been hard for you to put aside your beliefs and support her. I've held the hands of my friend who had her 2nd abortion after being raped yet again by her abusive boyfriend. I wanted to take her and drop her off at a shelter and force her to get an IUD, but I knew it would have just made things worse to say something. And I'm 100% pro-choice and don't believe life begins at conception.

Jenny - you are truly a remarkable woman. So many people in your position would be crawled into a hole just waiting for death to come. You are an admirable woman and I honor your strength. I'll be thinking of you this week.

I work around the block from the one of the largest Planned Parenthoods in New England. I see people protesting and throwing things daily at all those who enter. It really saddens me to see it, and to hear people like my in-laws who actually agree with the sentiment behind abortion clinic bombings. How about channeling that hate into education and something positive, so that there wouldn't be a need for abortions?

Chobie--you are right, anyone cant take care of a one week old child, hence my question. BTW, you make it sound as though the woman had no "choice" about the child who became implanted in her uterus. Is it like catching a cold? I am thinking not. Most people who become pregnant bring it on themselves. Should they not be responsible for that "choice"? Why should a child die because the result of that choice is inconvenient?

It's not a child, its an embryo. Some woman don't have a choice, it's called rape, what about them?

BTW, you said only you can take care of the one week old, so you should be able to kill it.

In my case it's a little more than *inconvenient* I have 3 other kids to consider, actually 4 kids that depend on me

::yes::

Interesting that people are willing to quibble over Jesus being celibate or not, but no one has tried to refute that Jesus was a Jew and Jewish law permitted abortions in some circumstances.

:sad2: :worried:

Reading this it is no wonder that our country is in such trouble. It is a bitter irony that on a daily basis we kill more innocent children via "legal" abortion than were killed in a single day on 9/11, or in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars combined. Where is the outrage for these innocent lives? We have no business wondering why God has not blessed this nation as richly as he has in the past.

So much to say to this, yet impossible for me to type it because of the rules.

Oh please give me a break! You have a right to your religious beliefs. But they are your beliefs. Abortion is legal in this country. So is the death penalty. How do you feel about that?

My beliefs lead me to believe that this country is in "such trouble" because many people believe their way is the only way. :confused3

Jenny,

*sigh* Your post has got to be the most disturbing thing I have ever read. I cannot respond to it right now because I need time to compose my thoughts without sounding judgemental.

I am really interested in what you are going to say, Lindsay. I don't know how you could read her story (or for that matter, her personal webpage), and yet struggle with not sounding judgmental. Please share, as this sounds harsh.

Jennymom, I read your homepage. You are an inspiration. :grouphug: from me to you, and prayers that the next few months are kinder to you than the past few have been.

I believe that the death penalty is morally objectionable as well. Thank you for asking.

Slavery was once legal in this country as well. Does that it was mean that it was appropriate? Didn't we abolish that when we became more enlightened? I am just praying for that enlightenment regarding abortion as well. Just because it is legal under our statutes, does not mean that it is right. I think we have already been there, done that.

There is no way she could comment from the anti-choice view without sounding judgmental, unless she has been or is in the life threatening situation Jenny is in. It's easy for people to say "IF I was in that situation", but unless they actually are they have no idea what they would do and to say otherwise is being intellectually dishonest.

Keeping abortion safe and legal IS enlightment.

Very true, I could have never imagined myself in an abortion clinic with my loved one.

That's what I am thinking. What I want to know is, WHAT would she have her do??

Funny thing is,I'm one of those people who always said I would never have an abortion..I was pregnant when I was diagnosed with HIV.The doctors told me to abort. I didn't and it was the right choice then..Of course I didn't also have Cardiomyopathy, history of CHF and Mini-strokes and I wasn't taking teterogenic drugs, one of which has this as a warning

Do not take fosinopril if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. When used during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, fosinopril can cause injury to, and even death of, the developing baby. Notify your doctor immediately if you think you might be pregnant.

One thing I have learned in 14 years with a terminal illness..You never know what you may have to do..You never say never.
And to be quite honest.I'm not ready to die yet.. I have more to do int his life

Your only argument against abortion is that it is an innocent child. This is a religious view. Should we just go ahead and adopt the bible for a constitution?

Thou shalt not kill has already been adopted. I don't think we need to go beyond that for this discussion.

How can you say that abortion is safe when one party ends up dead and another often ends up scarred for life? The only one who benifits is the abortionist ($$) who will have his/her own judgement one day.
