This shows that imagineering is still plenty capable of doing great things. The projection mapping technology seems to get better and better with every animatronic they produce.

I think mouseguy77 was referring to the script in the Haunted Mansion's music room and staircase and commenting if the hatbox ghost makes for 1000 happy haunts. The script says : "They have all, retired here to the Haunted Mansion, actually we have 999 happy haunts here, but there's room for one thousand. Any volunteers?? If you should decide to join us, final arrangements, may be made at the end of the tour."

Yes, exactly. Does this mean there were only 998 happy haunts up until now? Still seems iffy to me.

Hatbox ghost never really left according to the story but was hidden. The hatbox ghost has had a long history with HM in disneyland therefore I don't see what's iffy that he was part of the 999 and they only had 998 for a while.

He's pretty cool, but I have never heard people screaming like that in any of the Haunted Mansions. Were they just excited over the new ghost?

The screams were from locals (probably school kids). They have a way of disrupting ride experiences. I guess this happens everywhere, but for me it always seems more irritating at Disneyland. Lines for HM were long over the weekend, with the fastpass machines being activated for the first time since Christmas. I rode on HM twice on Monday, and once on Wednesday, with no more than a 5-10 minute wait. Hatbox Ghost looks pretty amazing in person.
