I don't understand what is going on. When I toured Disney, Hassan my Disney Rep told me to buy a 1000 point contract at Saratogo Springs and I can rent my points for $10/ point on the Dis Boards. I am now paying off $83,000 and am being told that I am not supposed to rent. What am I supposed to do?

I am definitely going to assume you are joking. :rotfl2:

I'm betting this is another one of those angry posts where both the thread and poster are going to vaporize within seconds.

OR...you could buy another 1000 points. You always want to buy on dips, and you KNOW how stellar the Mouse is with enforcement.

Why would I joke? I have a hefty mortgage payment and was told that pricing is going up and I can rent. I am very nervious.

Don't be angry Angry Mickey, you can use your SSR points to stay at SSR in a studio from Jan 1, 2007 through March 8, 2007. At least you won't be homeless.
:teeth:

Why are you making fun of me? I am not attacking you? I thought personal are not permitted on this board. I came looking for advice and you are mocking me. Why?

People probably think you posted as a joke.

If you didn't, I too would be very upset. I bought a small resale contract with the understanding that I could always have points transferred into my account after spending a lot of time on these boards. I wanted the flexibility to do that different years depending upon who came with us, etc. Now I feel like I am going to need to buy more points since transferring just got a lot more difficult...

Despite what some have said, I think the enforcement of the "old rules" will hurt everyone at some point, not just the big time renters. Even people who only have 150 points may find themselves in a situation of losing points due to circumstances they cannot control. People with larger amounts will have more problems.

If you truely would like advice, Sell your points.
If you bought for 83 /point, you could presently sell for 85+ a point and make money.
If you bought all 1000 points under one contract, good luck selling.

All the contracts you signed, said you should use your interests in DVC for personal needs not a business venture.
If you think you can outmanuver DVC in court, hire a lawyer and go for it.

Good luck.

If you really are serious, and are looking for advice....

Hassan Jafarriry (thats misspelled I know) is no longer a guide, he jumped ship a while back and is with Marriot now.

I think people are thinking you are joking because of the following:

1. Your user name
2. You just joined today
3. I find it hard to believe Hassan (who it seems no longer works for Disney) would encourage you to buying 1000 points unless that is a number you had come up with and sincerely doubt he would recommend renting the points on Dis Boards.
4. Alot of posters join just to stir the pot and make angry nasty comments. I personally have seen these type of people on every board I have ever been a member of or moderated (not all disney, even Girl Scout boards)

Since you have not posted to every thread I am inclined to believe you may be somewhat legit but will hold further judgement until a later point.

Yep!

If you are legit, there is NO ONE saying you can't rent out your points. It's stated right there in the email that DVC sent out...."their lessees". You can rent, you just can't make a lot of little transfers of points into and out of your account multiple times in a year. That has not changed....All that's changed is that MS is finally going to follow the rule to the letter. Of course, if your only intent was to have a commercial business of renting points, then shame on you for not reading your POS documents before signing and dating!

Sorry, I think you received some bad advice. I bought a 150 point contract at SSR and paid $81 per point and I wouldn't rent to anyone at $10 a point, unless I was going to loose my points (banking helps prevent that from happening). The way I calculated it over the 45 years I'm owning the contract, I'm paying that much just to use the points myself. Now, if I had bought 12 years ago for $55 per point, then that would be another story.

It is one contract. Why should it be hard for me to sell it?

Angry Mickey,

I understand what you are saying. When I bought my rep told me the same thing. They said that if I had any extra points I could always sell them to defray the costs of the additional points that I was convined to buy. I was planning on buying enough points to go ever other year and endied up buying for every year. This way I could rent them out and benefit from the additional purchse.

I am surprised more people are not supporting you. I think that Disney has not thought this through. This is going to cause all memberships to be less valuable. Just not being able to transfer a few points when you need to finish a reservation is a BIG DEAL!

Everyone....Look at both sides of the story!
But what IS the "big deal"? You can still transfer in a few points if you need them. You can only do it once though in a year. Nothing wrong with that and certainly allowed.

I totally agree. I think that many of those who have posted that this is such a great thing will change their minds in the future if the once a year limit is enforced. That is a serious limitation of the flexibility of DVC, which, IMHO, makes this timeshare significantly less valuable than without it. I like being able to use all my points one year, then renting/transferring some the next to pay cash for some of us on a cruise. I don't like the thought of struggling to find ONE person to take just the number I need to sell. Or if I happen to need points transferred in that I need to be sure of my exact needs for the year because I won't have a second chance to get any more transferred in. I think it affects those of us with many points more than those with a few, and who maybe do the same trip at the same time every year. But I like(d) DVC because I didn't want the standard timeshare where you had to do the same thing every year! I don't want to be forced to plan to the point a year or more in advance. I had been considering selling one of our contracts, and this makes me much more inclined to do so.

I also don't personally see this change making a big improvement in availability of those "hard to book" times. I think MS could and should have figured out a way to maintain the home resort of any transferred points, as that seems to be likely to cause problems in booking at the smaller resorts. As huge as Disney is, I find it amazing that they couldn't manage to figure out how to stop the "laundering" of points?? :confused3

For the very reason you are complaining about the "mortgage". Folks are more inclined to buy smaller contracts. That's why many of us have multiple contracts instead of one large one.

I believe most people buy into DVC for personal use and just simply wouldn't use a 1,000 points a year. Your guide should have advised you to buy 4 - 5 smaller contracts (200 - 250 points) which are more in line with how many a family would need each year for a week's vacation at Disney. That way you could have sold off them individually to 4 or 5 people.

Just my opinion.
