Has your reservation ever been cancelled on you?

Has anyone ever shown up at a DVC resort and found our that their all or part of their reservation was canceled without their OK?

Having multiple contracts and use years has made booking a little more complicated. Now, when you link reservations, MS sends you only one reservation sheet with one reservation number on it (usually the # of the starting reservation). In the past I've received a separate confirmation for each reservation in a linked trip. Current confirmations show the total points for the stay but doesn't list the individual reservation #'s that compromise the stay. I keep my own notes about each reservation number and the points booked etc. However, I still worry that some or part of a linked reservation will get dropped, and I won't find out till I get to the resort.

Nope. Our reservations have always been fine.

I know that recently there was a problem with recervations made in the name of another person. Some of the reservations reverted to the owner and the owner needed to call to re-add the person's name, but I have never had a problem with one of my reservations.

Good luck with yours.

Never happened. We've done day by day reservations and they are all under the same number. I think if I stayed at multiple DVC's during my stay I would like them to be separate ressies.

Yes. We arrived for our first stay at BCV only to be told that our reservation had been canceled. This was a straight forward non day by day ressie. After coordinating a call from the front desk with MS our reservation was reinstated. I still do not know what could have caused such a misunderstanding but hope that it never happens again!

Times have changed. When I was a kid (before the Punic Wars), it used to be that Miami Beach hotels did not consider a confirmed reservation to be...well...confirmed. You could fly down to Miami in a noisy DC-3, take a cab to your hotel, and be turned away with your confirmation papers in your hand. It happened to us.

Nowadays Miami is crying for visitors and they don't act that way anymore--and, of course, Disney never did. If you showed up with paper proving confirmed accomodations and they somehow had rented out all available rooms, Disney would probably build a new wing for you.

There have been reports of those arriving only to be told they didn't have a reservation. There has also been one report of a person with a home resort of OKW and booked at BCV being told they were switched to OKW because that was their home resort and BCV was full. If I recall correctly, they complained and a suitable arrangement was made but I don't recall the final outcome as all the suggestions from the board are running through my head.

Yes! This past August we arrived at BCV, extremely tired after our long drive, only to be told at the front desk, "you arent supposed to be checking in for 3 more days"
They were completely booked and the CM told me " we cant build a room for you!"Wrong thing to say to DH!
Luckily, I brought my confirmation with me- if I didnt have that, I cant imagine what would have happened.
We spent about an hour with the front desk and on the phone with member services. They had no idea how part of our reservation got cancelled and suggested we cancelled it! No, we did not!
In the end, it worked out, they somehow found a room for us and we had some points refunded to us so I was pleased about the outcome. But it was a really tiresome situation for us as it was happening!

CRO sends a notice when you cancel a reservation with them, I wonder why DVC doesn't do the same? Online reservation viewing would also alleviate this problem.

I was wondering about that too. Why would then not send a cancelationg notice?

I suppose it would be very costly - just think of all the reservation changes that get made every day. If only one change was made to each reservation, mailing/handling costs would double. I suspect there are many reservations that go through multiple changes.

Wish they could figure out a way to send a notice electronically to those who would like one, though. Even though we personally have not ever had a problem, I do worry about it - especially after reading about someone's horror story here on the DIS!

They do send a change when you call to change a request, so why would they not for a cancelation?

I've never gotten a new confirmation letter when I've called to change a request. But now that you mention it, I have gotten a new confirmation letter when I've adjusted my dates - either dropped a few days or added some. Inever asked for a new confirmation after a change like that, though.

Maybe it's up to the discretion of the CM?

Anyone who spends a lot of time at the computer knows how easy it is to mindlessly go through the motions and close a file without saving, etc. I hope the DVC computer system gives the CM several prompts before actually dropping a reservation.

Something like:

Do you want to cancel?
Y or N

You said you want to cancel, but do you really mean it?
Y or N

You said you really mean it, but do you really really mean it?
Y or N
;)

Last month I called MS to add a day to our VB vacation. When it was all done, I asked if there was a revised confirmation number and the CM said no, it's the same. Then I asked if I would receive a revised confirmation and she said she would send one if I requested it. I did ask for it as I recalled the surprises a few people had experienced.

Looks like they CAN build a room!

:scratchin

Dean, I was the one that BCV tried to move to OKW. After calling MS on their phone, and insisting that we wanted to stay in the Epcot area (I told them a room at one of the resorts would be OK with a fridge), they "found" a studio for us at BCV. It was last August, and I think at the time they were bumping BC guests over to BCV due to renovations around the BC courtyard. I saw several stories on the Resorts board at the time about this type of upgrade. Diana

But to DENY someone a confirmed reservation for this reason is terrible.

In addition, supposedly the "points" DVC units are billed separately from the "cash" units. That would mean they put a cash-guest in a DVC-points unit. And kicked out a reserved MEMBER to boot.

So much for "the magic of resort ownership."

I haven't received a confirmation letter a coupel times when the ressie was changed. once, I even called to request one since I never received a new one and MS told me they didn't need to send me another one , that it was correct in the computer! (I wodul ahev liked one, though!) They told me to just use my odl one, even though it had different dates on it!Thsi wasn't that long ago.

Soemoen recently had a thread about arriving at VWL Christmas week and they were told they didn't ahve a room for them, despite their ressie. Remember? They were told they shoudl ahve gotten there earlier!

Maybe I'll start calling to verfiy the ressie liek a week before we leave?

This is a little scary to read.

Shocking!

:earseek:

Are these just urban legends?
