Has your dog done this?

I believe my 88lbs 8 month old German SHepard some how crawled through a hole in our 6 ft privacy fence and got out today.

I heard him barking, but thought he was outside with my other German SHepard. So I went into the back yard to tell him to zip his pie hole and the other GS was just there, no puppy.

So I go back inside, because one more than 1 occassion, he has closed the bathroom door and cant get out. But I go inside, he is still barking and I can see him through the window at the front door, he is sitting there barking wanting in.

OMG! I am so lucky he was smart to do that, but at the same time, I was freaking because I couldn't find him. Then, he is a real talkative dog and I swear he was trying to tell me what happened-lol.

I go in the back yard and see this hole that I forgot was there as we just removed some bushes near that area and patched it up. He has been by my side the whole time after that.

No but the dang RABBITS chewed a hole in our fence last winter that was big enough for the dog to get through. She never figured out it was there and we fixed it in the spring.

Kodi (my roommate's Lab/Weimeraner mix) has done it many times. Luckily he always comes home after an hour or so (when we're not lucky enough to find him first.)

My son left the side gate open over the summer and I went to leave the house and there was our very put out 130lb Rottie sitting on the front porch bench .

It scared me to death because our HOA is very strict and they alreayd have a letter saying he is half Jack Russel so that he could move in to the hood LOL

Have you Microchipped both your babies? it is a good idea just in case he gets out again

So I guess you're saying your 88 pound GS dug a hole under your backyard fence, then turned up at the front door?

Well, sorry, but that's no big deal. :)

My 120 pound mutt has done that several times (although not recently) in the past 7 years. It's normal behavior for canines.

They dig because they can; it's as simple as that.

The one I was talking about actually breaks through the fence....no need to dig.

Where did I say he dug the hole? The hole was there all ready pre puppy, but it had been covered by a big bush that was just dug up recently.

And he is my 5th dog and I have never had a dog dig under the fence, let alone get out just to show up at the front door.

and yes, they are both microchipped. At any rate, I feel fortunate that he was at the front door. I just lost my hus/rot a few months ago to cancer, so I don't think I could bare losing another dog to whatever means right now.

hereyago, I'm glad he showed up at the front door too....I know how worried I was the first time Kodi broke out and Hurley went with him (which was the first time he broke out while I was living here.) I was panicking and in tears after I searched the neighborhood without finding them and I thought it was my fault for being on the computer while they were in the yard. My roommate was on his way back from Dubai and had just arrived at the airport in Tampa when I called him. He called his business partner who found the dogs.

When I moved in, I thought I had thoroughly walked the fence and it was Matthias proof. There were apparently holes in the links just big enough for him to slip through. He got out a couple of times before we fixed them. He does dig, but thankfully not by the fence.

I know this probably wasn't suppose to be a funny post but I laughed I could just picture this dog at your front door. :lmao:
You are so lucky my neighbor had their dog get off the leash and he wouldn't stop for no one and has been missing every since, you gotta love a dog that sticks around!
I hope this happens if mine ever get out! I actually love stories like these, thanks for sharing!

Oh yes. My Missy is an escape aritst. She even figured out how to open the fence gate. Any gate that has that arm that comes down around the fence post (like on a chain link fence) she can open with her nose (she flicks it up) if it's not tied down with rope or a bungy.

Funny story. I had my dog long before DH and I met, and when we moved to our current home from my previous condo, the first thing I had DH do was put in a fence. Our neighbor behind us had a fence, so DH left the back for last, figuring Missy could at least use the fenced yard once the sides were done, and wouldn't have to wait until the whole project was finished. There was a small gap in one corner between our side fence and the neighbors back fence. I warned DH that Missy would squeeze through it and get out, and to make sure he bocked that corner. He assured me he'd do it right away.

As I'm sure you've guessed by now, DH blew me off, not believing all the escape stories I'd told him, and thinking no way could she fit through the gap (it didn't look that big and she's a medium sized dog) The very first time he let her out, she got through that hole and into the neighbors yard in about 1 minute (basicly the length of time it took her to find the gap). DH spent the next 30 minutes chasing after her around the neighborhood. He plugged the hole as soon as he got back!

Four years later, she still checks out that corner to see if the gap has reapeared...

When our boxer mix was about 8 months old, he showed up at our front door and started barking for us to let him in the house.

We put him back outside and watched him to see how he got out of the fenced-in backyard. He had figured out that he could bounce high enough to make it to the top of our fence, then he would climb over the rest of the way.

We had to put a lip over the top of the fence to keep him from doing it again. Crazy dog!
