DD got a letter in the mail today from People to People Student Ambassodors inviting her on a trip to Canada as a Student Ambassador. I got to researching this online and found some really bad information so we aren't even considering it. Just wondering if anyone else had any experience with this???

we got one yesterday. Funny thing it say *your daughter* was invited (or whatever wording they used) and we have 3 daughters. I wonder which one was invited!!

Well, depending on who you ask it's either the greatest honor ever bestowed upon their uber special child.....or it's an over priced youth tour company with an incredibly clever (and clearly successful) marketing strategy.

They don't include the cost or any details in the letter. They say they will give you that at the info meeting. That made me think of a time-share meeting! :lmao:

Yup probably have gotten about a dozen so far over the years! They get the names from rosters. One son from student council, one for honors courses others from bowling.....Cheaper to plan our own trip and at least I'd know the chaperones!

In reading the letter I thought the first part of your comment....in doing a little research I realized it's more the second part of your comment. :rotfl:

We received one recently addressed to "my son." It goes on to detail this fabulous trip of middle school students. The thing is, I don't have a son in middle school. There are some pretty scary reviews online, though.

They're tricky like that aren't they?

I agree with your description. I knew a few kids when I was in middle school and high school that got letters and one went on a trip that cost almost $2,000.

That's cheep. DD15 got one when she was NINE to spend two weeks in Denmark for $6000.

Yes, we've gotten them for our oldest DS too....at first I thought it was the first description, upon looking further - I became more inclined to believe it was the second!!! :rolleyes1

funny--we just got one last week for DD12. She read it and has been talking nonstop about how she is going to go to London and Wales this summer and represent the USA.

Keep Dreaming sweet child!!

We got them for all of our kids when they were in elementary school. This was 20 & 14 years ago. We did go to the informational meeting for the oldest one. It would have cost us something like 8,000 for our son to go to Australia. We couldn't afford that, so he didn't go.

Yes, VERY $$$$$$$$. We did not participate. We did go to the informational meeting however; all 5 of us could go on vacation for the price that they were charging for 1 child. I also wasn't comfortable letting my son go for 10 days with strangers.

I do have a friend whose daughter went to London last year with them. It was 6000 for 10 days, she is 11. SHe had a great time and they felt it was quite worth it.

I love how they suggest you fund raise by writing letters to your relatives asking for money.

I'm sure the trips are fun, but they are very expensive.

LOL!!!! When my HUSBAND got one the same day my daughter did, I figured it wasn't any particular special thing & they just bought a list somewhere, that somehow my DH is on there as being a high school student. ;)

Yup. All my special snowflakes have received these letters.:lmao:

To be fair, I do know some people that have gone on these trips and while very expensive the kids really enjoyed them.

I don't know....maybe one of his teachers was sitting in the rec room at the retirement center reminiscing about what a natural born leader he was and sent in a glowing "nomination" for him.
