Has this happened to anyone else?

I recently heard about a family, no one I know, that went to Disney World and when checking in to their resort, they were asked for a birth certificate confirming their 2 year old's age. I have never been asked for this. When traveling this May, it will be right before my daughter's 3rd birthday. I will definitely bring hers.

Not us. We went for our 10th anniv and DS would be turning 3 weeks after our trip. He is very tall(he was over 40 inches) and was able to ride most of the rides. But we have been taking him every year since before he was 1(always around the time of his b-day) and maybe they could've looked it up or something? This is our first trip paying for him.

Since the airlines don't require anything like that it seems odd that the hotel would think the parents would have that available! I don't carry DS's birth certificate when we travel. The airlines have never even asked him his NAME, let alone asked for ID. Since I know I can get through the airport without ID for him there is no way I would think the hotel would need it!

Obviously you could just tell them you don't HAVE ID for your child because nothing you received from Disney indicated that it would be necessary. I booked our January trip myself and our October trip was through AAA - nobody ever said I would need proof of age for DS, and we were never asked.

Perhaps they meant Disney Cruise Line? I think they need birth certificates for that since you travel out of the country.

Thank you for all of your replies. I usually keep BC's in safety deposit box and only take them when I have traveled out of the country.
I'm sure someone must have gotten their story mixed up. I knew all of the moms here would know

American Airlines has told me that I need to bring a birth cert. for the DD just to be safe. I would hate to drive the 1 1/2 to the airport and have that be an issue!

SWA did ask for a birth certificate or shot records when we checked in. They do that to make sure the child is under 2. I, however, did not have that information But because my 12 week old son was obviously under age 2, they let me get by with it. If your dd or ds is even close to walking or is bigger, I would definitely bring some proof of age.

I was not asked for any proof of age at the parks though. DS1 is 2 1/2 and DS2 is 2 1/2 months.

I was under the impression that airlines will ask for a BC for children under two only if they are flying as a lap baby. We have always bought a seat for our ds - flew 4x round-trip before he turned two, and were never once asked for ID.

We have never been asked for any ID for our ds at the resorts on any of our trips either. We have stayed at BWV, AKL, and WLV.

ETA: we flew with Delta.

I should say we are at the other end of the spectrum. Our DS is 9, so obviously he is a ticketed passenger in his own seat on the plane. But as far as Disney asking me to PROVE he is 9 and has not turned 10 yet, no. I don't know what lengths they go to as far as proof of age for kids. DS is tiny for a 9yo. I know parents with children who are large for their age sometimes get nervous about proving their child is under 3 or under 10.

DS was 8 when we went in January, and he was 9 for our October trip. I guess if they look back on the records they can see that he isn't stuck on "9" permanently!

Yup....have been asked for my younger kids birth certificates almost EVERY time I have flown with them and they were under 2...that was on Delta and Southwest.

Bring the birth certificate if you're traveling by plane for sure.

I just got back for WDW with my nearly 3 yr old. No proof of age was needed at Pop and we had 5 in the room including the 2 year old. It was not a problem. We flew Delta and did not need a birth certificate for any of our children, but we did buy seats for all 3.
