You have a FANTASTIC idea of what to get someone for Christmas. You know they will love it!

2 weeks before Christmas, they buy it for themselves. :furious:

I am so annoyed. Okay, he didn't know I was going to buy it for him, but that's not the point. :teeth:

My dad does this all the time. I really think he does it on purpose

Ugh. I hate when that happens. :sad2:

When we were kids we were'nt allowed to buy anything getting close to Christmas. My mom would tell us that Santa might bring us the gifts so we needed to wait until after Christmas. Now that I'm much older I still apply that rule to my life.

YUP!

The stories of my second-oldest brother doing this are legendary! When we were growing up, money was tight (a family of eight kids!) My parents were excited to get this brother a soldering iron (I know - sounds wierd, but they knew he wanted one and would use it.) The stinker went out and bought one for himself with his paper route money in December that year. Can't recall what he ended up with (probably sox and pajamas!)

MY MOTHER!!! Every single freaking year she does this to me. This year she asked me for her Clinique stuff. Yeah, the whole lot is $103, but she doesn't have a job yet (she lost her job last year, went back to school, and just finished). So I plan how I'm going to buy it all for her, spacing it out so that I can get it all eventually. Last week, she went and bought everything - and I'd already ordered part of it! "Well, it cost $103; you can't afford that!" Okay, not to rub it in, but I have a job and income - you don't!

I also had to prevent her from buying some CDs that she wanted :sad2: So none of my gifts will be a surprise.

Our family rule was always that you weren't supposed to buy anything for yourself after October. However in recent years, my parents are famous for breaking this rule and then wondering why we all get so frustrated when Christmas comes. Every year we ask them what they want and they never give us any ideas. There are 3 of us and we always talk about going in on a group gift, but never know what to get. And instead of giving us ideas, they go out and buy themselves something that we could have gotten them - TV, video camera, etc.

They are the worst. I've given up asking them and I just give them whatever I decide to get them.

Not buying anything ahead of time is a good rule to live by! My SIL's family always passes out lists of stuff they want for Christmas. I used to think that was a dumb idea, but now I'm beginning to see the appeal! :rotfl:

I wanted to get my boyfriend a satellite radio for his car. He had hinted one time this past weekend that he wanted one and I was all smug since I had been planning on getting him one for months now. He just told me about an hour ago that he just bought one. :guilty:

Oh, well, back to the drawing board...

I have to declare a "moratorium on spending" from November 15 thru Christmas in our house. DH just goes out and buys whatever. Makes me just want to bop him over the head with (that book I bought Nov 1st that I knew he'd love - that he brought home Dec 15th), (the car iPod player that I bought October 20th that he bought for himself Dec 10th), (the golf shirts I find - ...) take your pick :furious:

My husband does this every year. He's hard to shop for to begin with. I used to stress about what to get him. The last 2 years when he's come home with xyz and tell him "Merry Christmas". :rotfl2: He then knows that is his present and he's not getting anything else.

Works for us.

I just did this to my mom Sun. It wasn't intentional though. I really wanted and needed a foot soaker so I bought one. As we're leaving the store, she sees what I bought and told me to take it back. I'm looking at her like she's crazy. Then it dawned on me that she may have bought me one in which she said she did. Oh well.

With DS12 birthday being 10 days before Christmas, I always tell him not to buy anything with the money he may get for his birthday. He has to wait til after Christmas. The game he really really wants I already bought. So I have to keep him away from the store for the next week.

It's my birthday Thursday and apparently my friends have been very close to buying stuff then ive gone and brought it...i do drop lots of hints though.
