Probably just a rumor about thie past...

I heard a few people (namely relatives I don't trust hehe), that seem to remember something different about the waterfall at the Pirates of the Caribbean in WDW. They thought the waterfall happened at a different point in the ride, or went straight ahead instead of turning off to the left.

Can anyone confirm or dispell both of these ideas?

Thanks!

Your relatives may be confusing the WDW attraction with the Disneyland version. There are two drops at DL, more of the ride is underground, which is not possible in FL due to the high ground water table.

The Magic Kingdom that you know is actually the second floor. Everything is build up so they could make the utilidors under the kingdom. There is plenty of room for them to have gone down but POTC is the same that I can remember.

I recall reading that some of the attractions is Disneyland (stretch room in HM, waterfall in POC) have to go down so they can go under the RR tracks.

I don't remember the waterfalls ever changing-been on ride many times over the years::MickeyMo

As Lewisc Mentioned, the main purpose of the waterfalls in the Disneyland version is to get you into the basement so that you can then go under the railroad tracks. The showbuiling is actually outside the berm.

The original attaction was going to be a walkthrough called "The Rouges Gallery" and it was designed to fit in the basement beneath New Orlenes Square. However, after they decided to make it a boat ride, it was clear that it wouldn't fit, so they came up with the idea of building most of the attaction outside the park and floating you under the tracks to get to it. The area with the skeletons at the beginning of the ride is that basement where the Rouges Gallary was going to go. The long tunnel just before the ship battle is where you pass under the tracks and into the showbuilding outside the berm.

BTW: The waterfall in the Florida version have never been moved either and they server the same purpose of getting you under the tracks to the show building outside the berm.
