Has Jiko gone bad?

I just read this thread on the Dining board:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2558019

Kevin, this has always been a favorite of yours, hasn't it? Have you been there lately? I think we need a review :D
I think all Disney restaurants have an off night. The real question is how many off nights does a particular restaurant have? That's what really separates Disney restaurants in my opinion...Consistantly good or not good.

I was there the same night as the OP of that thread and we had the best meal of our lives! We had a wonderful server (Michelle) and our food was excellent. We always order the filet, which hasn't changed since last time and tastes just as good as before.
The restaurant was very
crowded, but I expected that during free dining.
It was the first night of the vacation and my sisters were raving! We had an interesting evening afterwards (car trouble) and the staff of AKL went above and beyond for us. We will br back

Must say, although the food was pretty good, we weren't overly impressed with the service at Jiko, a bit cold and stand offish, and only really felt we had worse service at Crystal Palace dinner.

As said tho, every restaurant/server has an off day so I won't hold it against Jiko so much :)

:goodvibes

The server's at Jiko's vary widely in how good they are. Michelle is one that is truly exceptional. We'll be eating there in a couple of weeks and I'm hopeful that it will a good experience. It is a definite favorite for Dh and I and I always look forward to dining there.

I agree that Michelle is truly exceptional. I overheard the table next to us asking her how long she had worked there as she obviously knew the menu and wine list up and down. She mentioned that she was on the opening team and had been there 9.5 years. Wow

We have been to Jiko's 4-5 times and the service was always good as was the food. Last trip we skipped Jiko's because the menu had not changed and we wanted to try something else. Next trip we will be going to Jiko's again. We have ADRs. :)

Dan

We were there in late June and it was still as great as ever. Our favorite restaurant in the entire world.

We ate there in about a month ago. I was disappointed that some of the menu had changed, but the meal was still fabulous and the service was outstanding! Can't wait to go back!

And the chef is new, so he's still tweaking the menu. The last time I ate at Jiko, Brian Piasecki was the executive chef. He's currently at California Grill. There was another chef last year and the new chef replaced him.

I'd probably go to Jiko again one of these trips, but I'd want the new chef to get acclimated a bit more first.

I sure hope not....its our favorite restaurant. I will be going in a couple of weeks and will let you all know what we experience.

The best service we have ever had in any restaurant anywhere was Jiko - Ron was our server. He was beyond fantastic. I've seen Michelle mentioned many times on the boards as well. We'll be back in December.

I had dinner there last Thursday. The food was wonderful and the service was attentive without being over bearing. I eat at Jiko once per trip and have never had a bad meal.

That is saying SO MUCH for a waiter to say they've been in their job 9 1/2 years! Shows how dedicated she is to her work and how dedicated Disney is to keeping her!

We've had some awesome servers over the years: one at the old Concourse Steakhouse (can't remember her name; DH LOVED her so he'd know it....) and Brendan at Le Cellier stand out in my mind!

During our trips to WDW/California Grill in the late 90's we had a server named Becky. We ask for her every trip to WDW/CG. We have seen her every trip to WDW. :rotfl:

The DW always asks if Becky is working and if so can we get her table. We have been asking when we get to CG for our ADRs. Next trip we will ask to put the request on the ADR. Don't know if it will work but what the heck. We have to see Becky. :thumbsup2
