Has DVC started using Keurig?

I read that the coffee makers at the GF are Keurig machines. Do 'we' know if DVC is going to, or have they already started replacing the coffee makers in the rooms with the Keurig machines?

No, they are not. I was there a few weeks ago, and the regular coffee machine was there.

I wouldn't think that members would want to pay for new premium coffee machines and coffee in all of the DVC resorts.

I don't drink Coffee; however, I do know that these machines are fairly inexpensive (around $50 or less), especially when bought in bulk, so I don't see that being too much of an issue.

I really hope DVC doesn't ever go to those Keurig coffee makers. Besides the fact that you can't get up and just pour more coffee, it seems they're not very "green". For each cup, from what I remember, you have to produce paper waste. I'm hoping those things are just a temporary fad.

At $50 per room, it would be nearly $40,000 just to replace the coffee makers at OKW. If they are going to spend that money, I'd rather they hire more/better housekeeping staff.

In about half the resorts that I've stayed in that did use Keurig machines, I had to call to get the machine replaced...it would not work. The coffee cups are expensive, plus I like having the coffee brewed, so I can just pour a second (or third) cup without waiting for it to brew again.

At $50 per machine you are looking at $245,000 plus labor to buy and swap out the old machines.

I would rather see the money go to better Mousekeeping.

Kuerigs for 1.5 mousekeepers for ONE year PER resort, MAYBE. I'll take that trade any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Just imagine how much faster we'd get our rooms if we had 1.5 mor mousekeepers at SSR! :lmao: I'd rather have the Keurigs, but that's just me.

Seriously, we never get a real accounting of things like this. The hotel side should have to eat part of it too since so many rooms are used for CRO, but who knows? We never get to see detailed expenses like that. I'm sure we'll eat it in our dues when and if it comes to fruition.

I imagine that DVC could swing a pretty good deal with Keurig below cost sheer volume and pool of potential customers who would try it and like it (or not;)). I'm a big fan, first time I tried it was @ Loews property and I promptly bought myself one. FYI, they do sell 'green' refillable pods

Nope, those machines might be nice if you only drink a cup a day.
I drink 8-12 cups of coffee a day.
Way too expensive!
Hope they don't cave to this.

Yes and you can also get Hot Chocolate and herbal tea cups, as well as make your own.

Imagine if they worked with Keurig to have the refillable green pods in the room with instructions and you could get the loose teas from EPCOT, then use them in your room without needing a Tea Ball.

It is actually quite possible that Disney could negotiate free machines in exchange for selling them at the resorts.

Others have given you the math simply to replace all the machines. Getting one for $50 is not easy, even for the single cup smaller ones about the best I've seen is $69 and I've only seen that once with a sale combined with a coupon. I realize with their buying power they could get them for less but still likely around the $50. For the machines they have, I'd guess the direct cost of those is less than $10 each. There probably isn't much difference in the cost of 2-3 of these single use compared to what coffee packets they're using now but they wouldn't be able to supply more than around that. Other than concierge type options, I doubt we'll ever see them routinely unless the economics change dramatically.

So do I and I use one every day. My 6-7 cups cost less than one latte at Starbuck's where the base is around $3 + $1/word. I switch to half-caff in the afternoon and to decaf at night. Add up what it would cost you to do that with a 12-cup coffee maker. There ain't as much difference as you might think.

I think we're missing THE most important factor here and it hasn't even been mentioned.

One must factor in the profit of selling K-Cups at the resort shops too. I'm betting they wouldn't be $11-12/box like Target and BB&B, either. ;)

They'll sell primarily those "sample" sleeves with 3-4 cups in them in a wide variety of blends and they'll sell them for $5-7. Watch my words.

With a mostly captive audience, it's a virtual gold mine for Disney.

Is it definite that GF has Keurig? The CR has switched to a single/dual coffee maker but it's not Keurig. More like a Hamilton Beach or Cuisinart that uses the coffee pods. Those machines cost less than a Keurig but still wouldn't be very effective for the larger room accommodations IMO.

I considered that but I still don't see it happening. As for getting them free, generally it's a program offered by the manufacturer and not isolated on one company no matter how powerful Disney might be otherwise. I think you will see the economics of these machines change over time and it might then be a reasonable options, but not as things stand now. IMO.

I would love to see Disney switch to Keurig coffee makers. It would free up so much space in my owner's locker I wouldn't need to pack a suitcase.:rotfl2:

I routinely see these on sale at Target for around $50 and ocassionally as low as $35 around here.

I haven't seen the Keurig that low but have seen like the Mr. Coffee I think it is.
