I was thinking of sending my kids to a Y Camp this summer in Arizona. (We don't have anything like that here in Nevada). I was wondering if anyone has sent their kids to one and if so, what was it like? Did your kids like it? I would be sending my two DD's, ages 10 and 7. The one in Arizona is the only one that takes 7 years olds, as far as I know. Most camps you have to be at least 8.

Thanks for any feedback.

We have sent our boys to several summer camps through the Y. It is closer than yours though. We have always been pleased with them. There is a site you can research summer camps, I think it has Pederson in the name. Do a google search and you might also find references for the camp.

My DD has gone to Y camp. She had a great time, she also went to another camp and she had fun there also. They are both in Michigan so I don't know how camp is in AZ. She went to Y camp with other girls in her class but I know other kids who went by themselves and had a great time. I think that being younger helps if you go by yourself.

My DD is going to an arts camp this summer. She likes camp and always meets people. My DS on the other hand is not much of a camp person and only ever went to Boy Scout camp with his troop, but he's pretty shy and not very open to new experiences.

I went to band camp once, but never a Y camp

I went to a Y camp in Massachusetts when I was a kid. It was really fun and I enjoyed it.

My oldest son's first camp experience was a Y camp -- he had just finished third grade and was 9. It was a pretty good camp, but not as good (or expensive) as the one he did the next four years. Y camps are operated independently, so they are going to vary a lot from each other. Activities depend heavily on location. For example, one of the ones near us is on a big lake and heavily emphasizes water activities. The one my son went to was more diverse -- hiking, arts and crafts, canoing, swmming, etc.

I have three children and none of them would have been ready to do a week at camp at age 7.

Both of my boys (now, ages 10 & 11) went to an overnight Y camp for a week for the first time last year, along with their older (13) step-brother. All of them had a blast. They had such a good time, they are going for 2 weeks this year.
