had any luck renting a hybrid car like a prius or something similar?

I know with Hertz you can request one. My DH actually has in his profile that he DOESN'T want one. If you have never driven one, don't try it on unfamiliar roads. We had one for a few weeks about 5 years ago as a loaner and I hated it. I'm sure you can request one with other rental agencies too. Either check the websites or call a few.

NO POWER....they are dangerous. Not to mention small. And ugly.

Small rear slanted window, hard to see when backing up. The front windshield is also slanted and at night the reflection onto the windshield from the speedometer, etc was very distracting and made it difficult to see everything in front of you. DH drove the loaner for around 2 weeks while waiting for his new Solara convertible to be delivered. We will never drive one again.
