Just wondering if anyone here had bought into a "sold-out" DVC resort through Disney. I think I saw it mentioned in another post that you can sometimes buy into DVC resorts that are sold out if you're not interested in the ones that are currently being marketed. From what I read, it may be a little tough to convince your Guide, but it can be done. Anyone have any experience with this?

Yes, you can call Disney directly and try to get them to sell you one of the sold out resorts.

They may or may not have points to sell you. However, buying in at the sold out resorts through Disney will be a lot more expensive then going through the resale market. For example, VWL would cost you over $16,000 buying direct from Disney (if they have the points) vs. closer to $12,000 buying from a resale broker, like the board's sponsor, The Timeshare Store.

Good luck!

Another option to consider is looking at the resale market. There are many contracts available with your choice of UY. Plus the fact that some of these contracts can be significantly cheaper than purchasing direct from Disney. We purchased at OKW through resale and got a significantly larger contract than we would through Disney for the same amount of money.

When we bought in 2005, the price for points at BWV directly from DVC were comparable to the cost of a resale. Even then, this was not truly an apples to apples comparison, because if you found a resale with prior year points it was usually cheaper than a direct sale with prior years points. However, a "fully loaded" resale might be very hard to find and buying direct from Disney only required a one week wailist for us.

At the current prices direct form DVC and the number of contracts up for resale, it is likley that resale will be significantly cheaper.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

My guide offered it up right away when I asked with no problem. They are available but there are no incentives offered with those purchases right now so you are paying the full price. Resale would be the logical route for these types of purchases.

Wow. My guide was less than generous. We were new to the concept. We bought on vacation in Orlando at the SSR office this past January. The guide said our choices were AKV or BLT. He said to choose the one where we would really love to stay. I told him, "Where I would really love to stay is BCV." He responded with a very tart, "Well, you can't have BCV. These are your choices. Which one do you want?" If we weren't so in love with DVC, we would have walked. Probably should have walked. :)

DW & I bought VWL direct from Disney two years ago. Yes, more expensive than resale, but we had it right away with no closing costs, etc.

In speaking to our guide, DW merely stated that she had money to buy VWL either from him or resale. He very matter of factly stated "I have what you want right now". The papers showed up in about one week and the deal was done.

We've never looked back or regretted the add on.

Thanks for all the replies...they have been really helpful. I've been looking at a couple of the re-sale sites, watching what's been listed. There is definitely a lot out there to chose from. I just had no idea that it would be so much more expensive to buy directly from Disney.
If we do decide to buy in to one of the sold out resorts, it looks like somewhere other than Disney is the way to go.
Thanks again for all the helpful info!

Yes, really the only good reason to buy through Disney is if you want a resort that is not yet generally available through resale (BLT, VGC), or if you want a contract for SSR or AKV wherein you want 2008 and 2009 points as well as the ability to choose your own use year. But definitely do look at resale because, given the economy, there are great deals via resale right now. Good luck! :goodvibes

Wow. sure sounds like a jerk of a sales rep. When you do eventually add those BCV points (and you know you will :) ), don't let him get the credit! switch guides or buy resale. :)
