I am looking for comments from those who have worked at Lowe's Home Improvement. Good and the bad. I am considering a new seasonal position that only requires 4 hours a day and no weekends. But it is seasonal. Not sure its worth it for 3 months. Comments appreciated!

My DH started this way. He has now worked co for 8 years. Had a few changes along way but he's still there.

My sister started this way, too. She has been there 4 years now and likes it. They have decent part time insurance.

My father has been working at Lowes part time for he last couple years. He's partially retired and works there just for extra money to supplement his social security. Since he (and my mom) are in their mid 60's they have had their fair share of health problems and Lowes has been nothing but kind when it comes to Dad needing time off to go with my mom for her doc appointments, etc. He said the management at his store is very compassionate to their employees.

My cousin started seasonal three years ago working in the lawn and garden. They liked his attitude and work ethic and hired him on full time.

We never have but one of my favorite rags to riches stories is directly related to Lowes. When my husband and I were first married and working on our house, we'd go to Lowes often. There was an 18 yo high school guy, Jeff, working there to help his mom out because his dad had died and they were struggling. He was a very good worker and so helpful. There were stock options available and he took advantage of them when he could. Jeff did move up in the store eventually becoming a department manager. About 5 years ago right before the bust, he sold his stock and retired about age 44 with over one million dollars in the bank and most of it earned through allowing his stock to just grow and grow. Makes me so happy when I think about him.

Wow awesome replys! Well maybe I'll just try it out and go from there. Nothing ventured nothing gained. So glad to hear about all if the positive comments.:)

Working in retail isn't so much as this company is good and that company is bad. It 100% depends on the particular management of the individual store.

My wife worked for Lowes for about 4 years. She loved it and loved management. Her manager knew she was quitting when she had our first daughter and laid her off with unemployment benefits instead of maternity leave knowing after she wasn't coming back.

After 9 years of raising our daughters, when they youngest hit 1st grade, my wife applied back with Lowes. She was immediately hired as a seasonal worker. 3 months after that, they begged her to apply for the head cashier position. She only works 5 pm to close during the week and anything other than open on the weekends. It's been 3 years and she's gotten quite large pay raises over the 3 years and makes almost the same as one of the other head cashiers that she worked with back the first time.

Problem is, management has changed hands a few times. Now management doesn't care about anything. My wife has customers screaming at her wanting to see a manager and the managers refuse to see the customers. She has had people bring stolen merchandise in repeatedly, she knows it's stolen, management knows it's stolen, but management doesn't care. They tell her to ignore the driver's license flag and give them the money. My wife had someone return $2000 worth of Dewalt batteries in 4 transactions within a 20 minute window. Yes, I said $2000 worth. She refused to return them when the same kid came back in within 5 minutes with a different driver's license. Manager was with her, "Just return them," he said.

My wife gets 10% employee discount out of appreciation for their work. That's great, but all you have to do is come in as a customer and be an ******* and a manager will just give it to them for 50% or better. My wife is the one who gets the grunt of the anger from customers and the manager rewards the behavior towards the employees by almost giving the merchandise away.

Sorry to hear your have works in a store with poor management. I've taked to managers at our Lowes several times. Once to complain about an employee and the other times to compliment an employee. The managers thanked me and said both the good and the bad comments go into employee folders.
